MANAGER OF REVENUE ACCOUNTING - Technology Company in Decatur

My client, a technology company in Decatur, is seeking an experienced Manager of Revenue Accounting to help build and optimize our accounting processes, driving scalability and supporting our growth objectives. This role involves serving as a subject matter expert on technical revenue recognition matters, leading the revenue accounting, billing, and collections functions, and managing a team to ensure ownership, process improvement, client satisfaction, and career growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the subject matter expert for client contracts, interpreting terms and conditions impacting revenue recognition, preparing and reviewing analyses, assessing exceptions, and providing guidance on revenue impacts.

  • Review revenue contracts, modifications, and terminations to ensure timely and accurate revenue recording in accordance with ASC 606 requirements.

  • Manage the accounting process for all client contracts, including SaaS, professional services, commissions revenue, and revenue from revenue share agreements.

  • Support internal departments in reviewing client contracts, amendments, and SOWs to ensure compliance with GAAP and revenue recognition policies.

  • Oversee the preparation and management of all revenue-related items, including the month-end close process, journal entries, account reconciliations, flux analysis, and related reporting and disclosures.

  • Prepare technical accounting memos documenting the company’s position on complex client contracts.

  • Review and support revenue and billing activities, such as revenue and annual recurring revenue (ARR) recognition, invoicing cycles, and sales tax filing, reconciliation, and compliance.

  • Review all revenue-related balance sheet account reconciliations.

  • Calculate commission payouts related to revenue and bookings.

  • Assist in developing and reviewing revenue policies, streamlining processes, and recommending improvements.

  • Coordinate with external technical accounting resources to apply GAAP to unusual agreements.

  • Implement technology solutions and automation to streamline revenue close cycles and create efficiencies in accounting processes.

  • Coordinate with external auditors to facilitate revenue-related audits and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Support management with ad-hoc reporting and analysis requests as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting required; CPA and public accounting experience preferred.

  • 5+ years of professional experience in accounting/financial management, including revenue recognition (especially ASC 606), preferably in the software industry.

  • 2+ years of experience managing and leading highly effective teams.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; Power BI preferred.

  • Experience in accounts receivable and collections.

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (pivots, v/xlookups, indexing, large data sets).

  • Experience with large ERP systems required; NetSuite is a plus.

  • Proven track record of cross-functional collaboration with strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to work autonomously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability with a growth mindset.

  • Strong customer service skills.
