The Ford Rouge Factory Tour, operated by The Henry Ford, has an opening for a part-time Technology Engineer. The focus of this role is the daily support, operation and on-going maintenance of the Legacy Theater and Manufacturing Innovation Theater at the Visitor Center. The Full-Time Technology Engineer is responsible for maintaining and operating the theaters which include state-of-the-art digitally controlled video projection systems, special effects, show programmed robots, lighting, and sound. Responsibilities also include maintaining and operating show lighting, sound effects and audio/visual elements throughout the tour including kiosks and video projections. The Full-Time Technology Engineer is also responsible for technology and a/v for special events set-up and tear down. The FRFT Technology Engineer team shares coverage for a 6 day a week operation, with daytime visitor business, morning and evening event business and occasional maintenance or events on Sundays or after hours.

Essential Responsibilities

• Perform start-of-day maintenance on theaters necessary to produce the highest quality of continuous show performances. Troubleshoot and remedy show technology problems that arise in startup and during performances. Continuously monitor the shows for audio, video and effects quality and make accommodations as needed.

• Reports any issues pertaining to Technology to the Technology Team and the FRFT Senior Manager.

• Perform safety checks of all systems and ensure that any mechanical effects are in safe working condition.

• Follow and improve procedures for and manage theater preventative maintenance and materials replenishment schedules and procedures.

• Maintain a daily log provided by BRC Imagination Arts and file all maintenance reports in a timely manner.

• Perform start-of-day and end-of-day maintenance on technology in addition to theaters including exhibit gallery lighting and sound and audio/visual elements. Ensure operating at highest quality levels. Troubleshoot and remedy problems in startup and during the day.

• Responsible for the start-up and shutdown of all TV's, kiosks, and other displays with technology components.

• Responsible for the maintenance of programmable show lightning throughout the facility.

• Perform repairs and adjustments to technology components in theaters, gallery, and plant tour in accordance with procedures set by BRC Imagination Arts, and FRFT Senior Manager. Some hands-on repairs and adjustments will be required. Some coding work may be required.

• Ensure that all theater and exhibit equipment, rooms and materials are well organized and clean/neat and elements visible to the public are “show ready”. This includes theater auditoriums.

• Responsible for ensuring that all equipment and materials are handled, stored, and maintained in the best possible manner and in accordance with manufacturer/integrators guidelines to ensure best show quality and maximum length of life.

• Provide input to Presenters and FRFT management to ensure show continuity, smooth show entry/exit and maximum showmanship. Assist presenters in operating touch screen control panels, mics, and automated door systems. Also, be ready and able to host shows for guests, which includes some public speaking (show introductions) and coordinating visitor movement in and out of theaters.

• Set up and tear down A/V for special events which includes setting up speakers, mixing board, microphones, and projector. Adjusting audio/video setting for each event. Working with FRFT Events Manager and client contacts to meet client's needs to the best of our ability. Operating the equipment during the event. Tearing down and neatly storing all the equipment after the event has concluded. May also include coordinating with outside contractors for added a/v, lighting or show elements brought in for events.

• Follow processes, schedules and procedures as established by FRFT Senior Manager. Work with FRFT management and presenters to determine acceptable show experience when theater not operating at 100%. Adjust and communicate show expectations, accordingly.

• Remain attuned to industry trends in a/v and show technology. Work with FRFT Senior Manager to create continuing education and training plans to remain up to date with skill sets and systems.

• Perform other activities as necessary.

• Contributes to the effective team-based solutions of all problems, issues, and opportunities.

• Acts as team player and provides expertise within the team and with other teams as appropriate.

Your Qualifications

• 2 or more years of theatrical/stage experience in stage management, automated theatrical lighting and basic theatrical lighting fixture maintenance required.

• 2 or more years of experience in automated show control systems, audio systems, video servers and projection systems preferred but not required.

• Knowledge of theater sound and special effects a plus. Systems and effects include show control, multiscreen digital projection, video servers, automatic lighting control, dimmers, strobes, air movement, fans, foggers, hazers, lasers, 3D mapping projection, ETC lighting controls, touch panels, theater lights, digital audio controllers/players, wireless microphones, HD projection and Medialon control panels.

• PC skills required.

• Knowledge of Ethernet switching networks a plus.

Special Skills

• Strong track record of dependability, professionalism, and managing complex and simultaneous processes, particularly in a visitor venue/customer service environment is essential.

• Troubleshooting, prioritizing, and working well under tight time constraints and in demanding show delivery situations is also essential.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with staff at a variety of levels from technicians through executives.

• Demonstrated ability to handle shows for a variety of audiences including general admission, school groups and VIPs. Sound judgment needed for complex technology situations

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL

Physical: Employee will frequently Sit, Stand, walk and Climb Ladders. Employee Occasionally moves equipment weighing up to 50lbs. Employee will also be occasionally pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching in performing job functions

Vision: This role requires the ability to monitor show quality at all light and color levels

Mental: Must be able to apply established protocols in a timely manner. Logical, Sequential, able to process multiple simultaneous events. Quick thinking, Persistence and trouble shooting.

Environment: Need Theater and museum style environment, includes elevated open grating catwalks and vertical ladders, show control rooms, and industrial plant environment. to be quick moving at times.
