SciTec Research & Development Engineer Sr. Staff/Senior in Dayton, Ohio

SciTec is seeking an experienced R&D Engineer. We are supporting our National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC) customer under the NOVASTAR contract. In this role, you will lead the development of innovative algorithms and data processing methods for object and event data exploitation. This role involves advancing environmental feature and target signature analysis within a robust technical intelligence (TI) mission framework, supporting both manual and automated exploitation systems. The successful candidate will play an integral part in the research, development, and integration of NASIC’s streaming processing environment and mission-critical applications.
Responsibilities
Conduct research on unique environmental features and objects
Collaborate with task order customers and Subject Matter Experts to identify and qualify detectable environmental features
Generate geospatial track data and assess observations for target characterization
Analyze metrics derived from observable data and develop tools for extracting significant targets and features
Design and integrate algorithms for streaming and offline applications
Work with task order customers to implement containerized code and support transition to mission-critical processing environments
Develop solutions for detecting and tracking objects under various sensor and environmental conditions
Conduct testing, validation, and verification of developed and deployed algorithms
Develop workflows for automated feature identification, detection, and characterization
Review and enhance existing code for automated detection and reduce false alarms
Demonstrate alert systems for features of interest, while focusing on performance improvement and reliability
Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form with peers & decision makers
Work collaboratively with multiple contractor teams
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in the physical sciences, mathematics, engineering, computer science, or related area
Minimum of 5 years experience in R&D of algorithms and data processing techniques for environmental or target feature exploitation
Demonstrated strong knowledge of geospatial data analysis and feature characterization
Proficiency in automated detection systems and algorithm optimization
Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to work with government stakeholders and mission partners
Active TS Clearance with SCI eligibility
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
Proven track record of presenting to and influencing stakeholders and technical leadership
Good verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work full-time in-person in Dayton, OH office location
Detail oriented
Candidates who have any of the following skills will be preferred
Experience in image processing with Python, including development using libraries such as Pillow (PIL), OpenCV, and scikit-image to perform tasks like resizing, filtering, color adjustments, format conversions, and advanced transformations, such as static and dynamic object detection
Experience with development environments Anaconda and Miniconda
Background in technical intelligence applications and experience with ARCADE or similar systems

Flexible Work Hours
The pay range for this position is $116,000 - $165,000 / year ($116,000-$140,000 for Sr. Staff/ $140,000-$165,000 for Senior). SciTec considers several factors when extending an offer of employment, including but not limited to the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
