Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Spiritual Care, the Staff Chaplain provides spiritual care to patients, their families and staff, helping facilitate with faith issues in the healing process. Provides crisis intervention, visits clinical areas throughout the hospital, and makes appropriate spiritual assessments.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provides spiritual care to patients, family, and staff through visitation to units and in response to referrals from patients, family, or staff.

  2. Collaboratively works with and supports staff to integrate physical, emotional, and spiritual healing for the patient and care for the family to meet spiritual/religious needs of patient/family.

  3. Participates in meetings, planning, and interdisciplinary rounds with Palliative Care and in-patient areas as needed.

  4. Prepares and participates in leadership of interfaith services and other special services for memorials or other occasions.

  5. Participates in hospital committees, departmental staff meetings, in-services, and other planning meetings as needed.

  6. Provides in-services and other educational opportunities for CPE students, department, and other hospital staff.

  7. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education: BACHELOR'S LVL DGRE

Other Information:

Required: Four year college degree and two or more units of ACPE accredited Clinical Pastoral Education.

Minimum Experience: three years

Desired: Masters degree preferred. Theological experience and ecclesiastical endorsement are preferred. Member, or eligible, to apply to a Chaplain certifying organization (i.e., Assoc of Prof'l Chaplains, Nat'l Assoc of Catholic Chaplains).

Working Conditions:

Manual: Some manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity

Occupational: Little or no potential for occupational risk

Physical Effort: Medium to Heavy effort. May exert up to 35 lbs. force
