Job Summary

The Sr. Project Estimator is responsible for preparing estimates and bids for construction projects, reviewing plans & specifications, and analyzing project costs. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the construction industry, the ability to read and interpret blueprints, and experience with cost estimating software.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting contract documents (specifications, drawings, and reference information) to develop detailed comprehensive cost estimates for civil construction projects with an emphasis on utility projects.

  • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs for earthwork, concrete, and underground piping and drainage, as well as asphalt paving.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers throughout the pre-bid process, including solicitation of bids and eventual preparation of subcontracts and purchase orders.

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with clients.

  • Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in civil estimating.

  • Strong background in Microsoft Office applications as well as construction estimating software.

  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

  • Sound organizational skills with attention to detail.

Preferred

  • Previous utility construction project estimator experience.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and scanners.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is primarily sedentary, with some filing or lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
