Prime Video is seeking a Head of Studio Engineering for our growing Live Sports Production Technical Operations team. The ideal candidate will provide leadership, vision, and support for the design, build, and day-to-day engineering and technical operations of Prime Video Live Sports studios. Responsibilities include the supervision of a small, high-output team of engineers supporting all facets of studio production. This role requires vision, ability to deal with ambiguity, and a drive to learn and be curious in a high-pressure environment that is constantly evolving.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering & Technology, the successful candidate works closely in partnership with our studio production team ensuring all technical needs are accounted for, tested, and ready to support our productions.

The ideal candidate will continue to dive deep on new technology through meetings with vendors and attendance at industry conferences that showcase new best practices and technological advances.

Key job responsibilities

• Manage studio engineering and technical operations team in support of our studio productions

• Collaborate with field technical operations and production teams to support our remote production efforts on NASCAR, NWSL, and WNBA

• Manage facility broadcast technology schedules, ensuring regular maintenance, repair, and upkeep

• Manage capital projects as new projects and technical refresh projects occur

• Work closely with technical vendors and partners to stay current with the latest broadcast technology

• Support technical efforts and needs of our audio, replay, graphics, ingest, and media asset management (MAM) teams

• Collaborate with AWS partners to evaluate and implement live cloud production workflows

Basic Qualifications

• 8+ years of Engineering Management with relevant broadcast facilities and studios experience

• In-depth knowledge of SMPTE ST-2110 routing solutions

• Knowledge of video, audio, communications, networking, camera systems, transmission, and replay systems

• Experience working with multiple stakeholders in live television production environments

• Availability to work during off-hours and weekends as required by operational needs of our programming schedule

• Experience educating non-technical stakeholders and working across multiple teams and regions

• Ability to problem-solve and multi-task in fast-paced, dynamic environments

• Extremely detail-oriented, organized, and a team player

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, can clearly articulate and document technical processes

• Project management experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree Electrical Engineering, Media Production, Computer Science (or equivalent experience in Broadcast Engineering with Management responsibilities.

• Experience working on or with large-scale, network level productions

• Previous experience designing and implementing AR/XR and LED wall graphic workflows.

• Experience with Calrec audio consoles, EVS replay systems, Sony and Grass Valley production switchers and camera systems.

• Working knowledge of multi-cast media networks

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $164,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $313,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
