Guthrie RN Nurse Navigator Breast Imaging - Mammography - Per Diem in Corning, New York

Position Summary: The Breast Nurse Navigator’s primary function is guiding breast health patients through the health care system by assisting with access issues, developing relationships with service providers, and tracking interventions and outcomes. Education, License & Cert: 1. Graduate of an approved registered nurse school of nursing 2. Must possess NY state license as RN 3. Certification in the National Consortium of Breast Center (NCBC) Breast Patient Navigator Program is preferred. 4. CPR Certified Experience: 1. Must be Licensed RN by the state of NY 2. Must have a minimum of three years of experience in breast imaging or equivalent, and possess a proficient knowledge of breast diseases, cancer diagnosis and treatment. 3. Minimum 1‐year emergency and/or critical care nursing preferred 4. Minimum 1‐year RN Med/Surg experience preferred Essential Functions: 1. Initiates communication with patients upon learning they have a suspicious mammogram or positive finding. 2. Guide patients through the health care system; help patients be prepared and arrive at scheduled appointment. 3. Assess high risk breast patients using family history base risk assessment models (IBIS or BRCA‐Pro). Manages tracking of MRIs for high risk patients, including result communication to patient and tracking recommendations. This may also include working with insurance companies to assure coverage for recommended screening in high risk patients. 4. Explains breast procedures to the patient, including pre and post‐procedure instruction. 5. Assist radiologist with breast biopsies and other breast procedures. 6. Communicates breast biopsy results to patients; arranges appropriate surgical referrals/appointments. 7. Connect patient to community and social support services. 8. Documentation per Policy and Procedure. 9. Patient/family/significant other teaching. 10. Medication Administration, IV Therapy, Blood Administration. 11. Hospital and unit specific Policy and Procedure including basic equipment usage. 12. Demonstrates Nursing Process ‐ ability to independently assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for all patients at all acuity levels. 13. Demonstrates basic skills and use of basic unit equipment. 14. Demonstrates competency in contrast media administration and outcome monitoring. 15. Computer skill relevant to job performance. 16. Infection Control. Other Duties: 1. Cleaning and restocking rooms daily. 2. Ability to deal with stressful situations 3. Reports problems occurring with equipment to Coordinator or Director of Imaging. 4. Meets regularly at Radiology departmental meetings. 5. Acts as a resource person for nursing, medical, and radiology staff. 6. Ensures daily that all emergency equipment is available and functional. Responsible for the checking of medications. 7. Must have ability to react quickly to emergency situations such as patient fainting, patient being unsteady while standing for procedures, if unsafe situation occurs (such as a fire), getting the patient to safety and sounding alarm. 8. Must be able to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays, on a scheduled basis. 9. Must be able to lift, push, reach, bend, stoop, and walk in order to care for patients. 10. Other duties as assigned
