The Dallman lab is seeking a Research Associate to conduct research on functioning of the gut/brain axis in zebrafish models of Autism. The candidate will conduct CRISPR/Cas9 injections, gut motility assays, immunohistochemistry, RNA harvesting, cell sorting and chemical screens in collaboration with other lab members as well as on their own. For their contribution to the execution of these projects, the Research Associate will earn authorship on associated publications. The Research Associate is also expected to help with maintenance of laboratory standards: to comply with Environmental Health and Safety (update chemical inventory and request pick-up of satellite waste as needed), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (ensure that all members of the lab complete trainings), and Office of sustainability (recycle as possible, minimize lab waste, clean filters on refrigerators, close sash on hood). Experience with cryopreservation of zebrafish sperm is desired so that the Research Associate can help make a library of the essential/unique lines maintained in the University of Miami Zebrafish Core Facility.

The Research Associate 1 supports research activities under the direction of a principle investigator, program director or designee of the principle investigator or program director.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data, maintaining databases, etc.

• Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.

• Participates in the publication of significant results.

• Advances expertise through continued education, training and/or research.

• Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.

• Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice and guidance.

  • Able to convey information effectively.

  • Able to work independently.

  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Strong analytical skills.

Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):

  • Bachelor’s degree in a basic or health science related area required.
