University of Miami - Department of Wellness and Recreation

Reformer Pilates instructors are an integral part of the Department of Wellness and Recreation at the University of Miami Herbert Wellness Center. Pilates instructors are responsible for leading a variety of classes that range in style and experience level. This includes cueing proper sequencing, posturing, breathing techniques, and much more.

  • General – duties include, but are not limited to the following responsibilities:

  • Provide a safe and fun environment for participants.

  • Demonstrate and promote knowledge of history and philosophy of the Pilates practice, as well as proper execution of techniques, terminology, and sequencing.

  • Provide excellent customer service to the patrons.

  • Maintain reformers and Pilates equipment, rooms, and storage areas.

  • Knowledge and enforcement of Wellness and Recreation policies and procedures.

  • Earn all necessary Continuing Education Credits (CEC’s or CEU’s) to maintain active certification.

  • Maintain a current CPR/AED certification.

  • Assist with special events.

  • Attend all required trainings and meetings.

  • Assist with check-in of participants as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a current nationally recognized Pilates certification.

  • Ability to conduct safe and effective classes.

  • Knowledgeable in principles, techniques, and dynamics of Pilates.

  • Knowledgeable in use and maintenance of Pilates reformer equipment.

  • Possession of current certification(s), including adult CPR/AED.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Must adhere to the Wellness and Recreation and University policies and procedures.

  • Must be reliable and available at least 4-6 hours a week and provide a diverse amount of availability.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience teaching or leading group reformer Pilates classes.

  • Available to work during winter and summer breaks.
