Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Evening Therapeutic Recreation Aide 6:30pm-9:00pm in Commack, New York

Set on a 36-acre campus in Commack, NY, the Gurwin Healthcare System includes the 460-bed Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, providing short-term rehabilitation and long-term skilled nursing care, memory care, respiratory and ventilator care, palliative and hospice care, social and medical adult day programs, and on-site dialysis. Sharing the campus is Gurwin’s Assisted Living community (Gurwin Jewish Fay J. Lindner Residences), our Licensed and Certified Home Health Agencies and our new independent living community (Fountaingate Gardens).

Our innovative facility and growing services offer opportunities to advance your career. We are currently seeking a per diem Evening Cabaret Therapeutic Recreation Aide who will embody the passion and commitment required to deliver the ultimate care for our residents.

Please note the scheduled hours for this position is Sunday, Monday and Wednesday 6:30pm-9:00pm.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Planning, organizing, facilitating, and promoting therapeutic recreation and treatment programs. Functioning as an integral member of the treatment team.

  • Demonstrates ability to conduct TR programs using appropriate leadership styles.

  • Capable of lifting and carrying equipment and materials.

  • Capable of transporting residents to and from recreation areas.

  • Demonstrates ability to maintain equipment and supply inventory.

  • Demonstrates appropriate time management skills.

  • Demonstrates ability to originate new and unique programs.

  • Maintains knowledge of current TR trends, techniques, methods, issues and professional legal standards.

  • Demonstrates flexibility in work schedule when needed.

  • Demonstrates ability to resolve conflicts effectively.

  • Exercises confidentiality with regard to resident information, recognizes residents’ rights to control information about themselves. Communicates appropriately with residents, staff, families and co-workers.

REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

At least one year experience working in a nursing home with knowledge of the dementia population and related behaviors. Associates degree in T/R or eligible for CTRS with allied field experience preferred.
