Job Summary:

The Painter, Automotive Worker coats surfaces of motor vehicles such as automobiles, buses, and trucks with paint, lacquer, epoxy, resin or other material, using brushes, rollers, spray guns and other devices, removes old paint from vehicle, using liquid paint remover and scraper, smoothest surface with sandpaper and steel wool. The Painter, Automotive Worker roughens aluminum surfaces with acid solution and steel wool to ensure that paint adheres to surface, masks and covers portions of surfaces not to be painted, paints vehicle or specified portion of vehicle and may paint insignia, letters or numerals on vehicle surface using stencils.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs painting on a variety of light and heavy equipment, such as combat and tactical wheeled, track and artillery equipment as well as spot painting and stenciling sea land containers by any of the accepted methods of the trade using painting materials that are prepared in special as well as common ways. Applying painting techniques that ensure surfaces have a smooth textured appearance and meets trade standards and military specifications.

  • Determines the methods, techniques, devices, and materials that are best suited for the surface finish.

  • Prepares surface by grinding, sanding, smoothing, filling, shaping, and leveling with metal synthetic resins and plastics.

  • Mix and apply pre-coating agents. Prepares coating material by tinting, toning, matching, blending, and mixing in various additives.

  • Applies coating with brushes, rollers, spray guns and graining devices. Cuts and applies stencils as required.

  • Maintains paint booth and sets up, adjusts, and performs booth maintenance as necessary by following established standard operating procedures.

  • Use authorized procedures in the preparation, application, and disposal of Chemical Agent Resistance Coating (CARC) paint.

  • Move equipment in and out of booth by using material handling equipment or driving using proper ground guides.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.

  • Three years painting experience of various tactical wheeled, track and artillery equipment.

  • Must possess and continuously maintain a current State of Colorado Driver's License prior to start date or by 30 days after employment,

  • Material & Equipment Directly Used:

  • Automotive paint application equipment; respirators; material handling equipment.

Physical Demands & Working Environment:

  • Work is generally conducted in a shop environment. However, duties may involve the conduct of work in the out-of-doors area with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions. Work will require lifting to 50 lbs.; stooping; climbing; prolonged standing; prolonged sitting; and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
