Akima Support Operations Material Coordinator, Lead (Small Pack - Transportation) in Colorado Springs, Colorado

Position Summary: The Material Coordinator Lead coordinates and expedites flow of material, parts, and assemblies within or between departments in accordance with production and shipping schedules or department supervisors' priorities. In this job, the Material Coordinator Lead reviews production schedules and confers with department supervisors to determine material required or overdue and to locate material, requisitions material and establishes delivery sequences to departments according to job order priorities and anticipated availability of material; arranges for in-plant transfer of materials to meet production schedules, and with department supervisors for repair and assembly of material and its transportation to various departments, and examines material delivered to production departments to verify if type specified, ensures shipments are coordinated with FedEx and UPS for priority and overnight shipments.This Lead will monitor and control movement of material and parts along conveyor system, using remote-control panel board, compute amount of material needed for specific job orders, applying knowledge of product and manufacturing processes and using adding machine; compile report of quantity and type of material on hand, move or transport material from one department to another, using hand truck or industrial truck; may compile perpetual production records in order to locate material in process of production, using manual or computerized system, and maintain emp

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES: 1. Coordinates and executes freight shipments into and out of the installation using Global Freight Management (GFM) for LTLs / TLs and the UPS / FEDEX systems for Small Package Express shipments. Creates and issues Commercial Bills of Lading (CBLs) to authorized civilian carriers within the DoD transportation system.

  1. Coordinates and executes freight shipments into and out of the installation.

  2. Monitors and evaluates effectiveness of services provided by commercial carriers.

  3. Maintains and interprets various tenders from commercial carriers and applies discounts for selection of most economical and quality service mode of transportation.

  4. Ensures required service is provided by "Best Value" to the Government based on DoD Transportation Regulatory requirements.

  5. Reviews all customer requests for accuracy prior to entering CBL data into CMOS, FEDEX Ship Manager, UPS or DHL shipping systems.

  6. Ensures the proper classification, consolidation, transport mode and carrier selective routing, documentation, preparation and verification and processing of Government and/or Commercial Bills of Lading.

  7. Provides technical advice, estimates and assistance on shipping Government freight for Small Package Express shipments and Outbound Freight section.

  8. Responsible tracing freight identified that is determined to a frustrated or having a discrepancy. Prepares Transportation Discrepancy Reports (TDR) and process astray and frustrated shipments. Obtains exhibits, pictures, investigates, and transmits within required DoD regulatory timelines.

  9. Inspects In-bound shipments from notification of consignee for possibility of improper handling by commercial carrier.

  10. Must have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.

  11. Prepares Transportation Control Movement Document IAW FACTS or manually.

  12. Prepares required reports and maintains statistical data.

  13. Validate all Transportation Account Codes prior to shipments being entered.

  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED: Material Handling Equipment, i.e. Forklift trucks, electric and gasoline, up to 10K lbs. capacity Computer knowledge of FEDLOG and military STAMIS applications. Computer equipment, various software programs, fax, and photocopier.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: Work is generally conducted in an office envir nment. However, duties may involve the conduct of work in the out-of-doors area with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions. Work will require lifting up to 50 lbs. stooping; climbing; prolonged standing; prolonged sitting; and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical or biological agents. Employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required is certain areas. Such PPE includes but is not limited to head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision and hearing protective devices. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School graduate or equivalent. Experience: Two years' experience in industrial, commercial or Government organization of freight movement operations. HAZMAT certification is desired.
