Job Summary
Dorman is seeking a Mechanical/Electrical Engineer to review and test products, distinguish manufacturing vs. design problems, communicate with engineers and suppliers, implement a corrective action plan, and verify effectiveness. Ideal candidate will have at least 1-year Engineering experience plus at least 1 year performing root cause analysis/problem-solving.
This is a hybrid role, in the office Monday through Thursday with the ability to work from home on Friday.
Primary Duties
Coordinate Corrective Action/Preventative Action process to resolve product and process issues
Understand primary types of customer complaints
Lead the containment and determination of root cause for customer product satisfaction gaps
Coordinate change implantation with Engineering, Manufacturing site, and System Development Engineers
Work with root cause techniques and enhance root cause analysis process
Understand and communicate OE product issues with Engineering
Participate in cross-functional teams
Support product development and reverse engineering functions
Support local site quality and operations
Implement controls to prevent reoccurrence on nonconformances
Qualifications
Experience within a manufacturing environment and a good understanding of manufacturing processes
Working knowledge of product qualification testing, inspection tools, and test equipment
Knowledge of root cause analysis techniques: 8D, 3x5Y, Shainin, DFSS, DMAIC
Knowledge of APQP processes: DFMEA, PFMEA, control plans, and PPAP
Familiar with automotive vehicle component function and system infrastructure
Automotive product experience preferred
Computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, focus on Excel, Powerpoint, and Word
Knowledge of materials; plastic, rubber, and especially metals
Demonstrated participation in Continuous Improvement activities
Knowledge of product qualification testing, inspection tools and equipment, and supplier quality activities
Knowledge of materials, finishes, and specifications (SAE, ASME, ANSI, etc.)
Creating and implementing Procedures and Work Instructions
Education / Experience
BS degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering with 1 years’ experience working on product/process projects
Minimum 1 years’ experience in root cause analysis/problem solving
Experience in global manufacturing and distribution environment preferred
