In this role, you will provide technical support for our research projects, performing a variety of routine tasks with precision and care. Opportunities to Contribute

  • Set up crosses using fruit flies and collect larvae progeny.

  • Perform locomotion behavior assays in Fruit fly larvae.

  • Assists senior staff members in conducting experiments and consults in developing procedures.

  • Analyze the locomotion behavior data using MATLAB and R program.

  • Train undergraduate students with the research tasks.

  • Participates in training and professional development sessions as needed.

  • Assist with fly food preparation and fly flipping.

  • Perform high-resolution laser scanning microscopy.

  • Assemble, operate, and maintain technical equipment.

  • Sets-up and maintains equipment for the assigned laboratory and updates laboratory computers.

  • Maintains laboratories according to Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) specifications.

  • Performs laboratory and prep room cleanup.

    Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years of related professional experience.

A well-qualified candidate will also possess one of more or the following

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

  • Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.

  • Ability to work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.

  • Ability to perform animal dissection using sharp tweezers Familiarity with Excel, MATLAB, and R Familiarity with microscopy and immunohistochemistry.

  • Some prior experience to work with fruit flies.

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected hire’s education and experience.

Schedule: This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends

Special Note: This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the contract. Therefore, this position is contingent upon continuation of funding from these grants and/or contracts, as well as satisfactory job performance. This position will require export-control authorization prior to starting employment.
