This is a full-time, exempt position.

Nature & Scope:

The Quality and Food Safety Manager (QFS Manager) will define and promote the Quality and Food Safety mindset across this ADM facility. They are accountable for establishing and maintaining Quality and Food Safety Systems including Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Food Safety programs within the plant. They are responsible for managing policies and procedures, CAPA programs, equipment risk evaluations, food safety programs, batch level documentation, and overseeing product release.

Major Accountabilities:

The responsibility of the QFS Manager includes; but not limited to, the following:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure work is completed in compliance with approved SOPs, batch records, controlled documentation and all applicable regulations, guidelines, safety policies and procedures are followed; Must understand and comply with OSHA safety requirements

  • Partner with operations team to build a strong food safety culture, to ensure pre-requisite programs are effective for producing safe food/supplement product and to facilitate the successful execution of customer and regulatory.

  • Perform document control activities including, but not limited, issuing, reviewing, and approving batch records and work instructions, ensuring logs and records are appropriately completed and maintained, reviewing and approving shipping documentation, and filing and maintaining all records as required

  • Document and oversee cleaning and equipment validation efforts and validation documentation (VRAs/VSAs, IOPQs, etc.) within a cGMP facility. Perform validations as required.

  • Perform raw material management functions including, but not limited to, receiving, sampling, testing, and shipping of goods

  • Ensure adequate stock of quality assurance consumables are maintained in inventory.

  • Assist in change controls associated with fermentation and support equipment, process, and utilities

  • Train associates as applicable. Participate in cross-training initiatives

  • Review and approve specifications for reagents, supplies, and materials used in production and laboratory testing

  • Assist in conducting hazard analysis and product evaluation

  • Review new or revised Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and forms for compliance with applicable regulations.

  • Implement and maintain a Food Safety Program, Food Defense, and Food Fraud Prevention Program in compliance with CFR Part 117.

  • Assist other departments in the development, revision, and preparation of SOPs and forms in accordance with policies, regulations and protocols.

  • Advise and assist in the establishment of calibration protocols and maintenance records in accordance with cGMP, cGLP and/or regulatory requirements; Assist in the review, trending, and management of equipment, calibration, and maintenance records.

  • Work flexible hours to accommodate manufacturing, including potential nights and weekends.

  • Carry out OOS investigations ensuring proper identification of failure mode, root cause, and corrective/preventive action and assist in the development of clearly written summaries.

  • Conduct CAPA investigations, deviation and nonconformance reporting, and other quality system documentation. Ensure communication is maintained with the Quality Systems Specialist.

  • Assist QA Management in gathering data and trending of Quality Objectives, QMS, and other quality data.

  • Assist with quality team audits including, but not limited to, Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP

  • Must be able to tolerate the noise and odor that results from fermentation processes.

Education

  • Minimum – 4-year University Degree; 5+ years of related experience

  • Preferred – Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology/Biochemistry/Biology or equivalent; 5+ years of related experience

Experience

  • Minimum 2+ years in a cGMP manufacturing environment

  • Experience working in an FDA regulated environment

  • Experience in Federal and State Food Safety Regulations including HACCP and cGMP

  • Experience in Root Cause Analysis and/or Failure Mode Analysis

  • Must have the ability to assess situation and develop a solution

  • Must have good attention to detail

  • Must have the ability to adjust to changing work demands and priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Effective communication and report writing skills; legible handwriting required

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products with an emphasis in Excel

  • Strong analytical experience

  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly

  • Results driven, strong work ethic

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to perform a standing job for a full shift

  • Must be able to walk, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, reach and grasp for varying periods of time

  • Ability to differentiate subtle variances in color

  • Ability to wear a respirator and hearing protection

  • Ability to work flexible schedule including nights and weekends

  • Fluent in English required, bilingual (Spanish) preferred

  • Must possess a valid US driver’s license

  • All other assigned duties

  • Local travel: Occasional (<25%)

  • Out of state travel: Occasional (<10%)
