Description Under the general direction of the Systems Accountant, the Financial Support Specialist performs utility accounting tasks within the Utility Customer Service department; participates in integration and support of various enterprise customer systems that impact City customers; assists in producing timely and accurate customer statements and reports; and assist with maintaining utility customer accounting records.

Principal Duties Compile and analyze customer information for customer statements as directed by the Manager and apply principles of accounting to issues and concerns and prepare customer reports. Reconcile subsidiary records of the system and research discrepancies. Propose adjusting transactions necessary to make corrections to appropriate accounting records. Perform period-end processing and detail reports for other departments, which includes department detail, closing account periods, and distributing month and year-end reports. Develop and execute any necessary customized reporting from the system for customer reporting purposes. Prepare monthly and quarterly detail reports. Understand data structure and provide training to departments as requested. Participate in annual accounting activities, including but not limited to, assisting with the preparation of annual audit support materials. Assist with the development, integration, and maintenance of the customer systems, including but not limited to participating in upgrade and installation testing, ensuring system integration of departmental sub-ledger to general ledger, and ensuring integrity and accuracy of electronically transferred data. Collaborate with Information Technology and other City departments to establish, modify, document, and coordinate the implementation of the enterprise customer systems control procedures. Work to maintain and enhance the proprietary reporting system for monthly, quarterly, and annual customer reports. Work with vendors and other city employees on the continuous improvement of customer services to ensure a consistent, integrated System that is utilized within the standards, and ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Recommend process improvement goals, objectives, and changes to policies and priorities for assigned activities to improve the customer reporting services of the City. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required: Associate degree in accounting, MIS, Computer Science or a related field and three (3) years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience Knowledge ofsystem integration Knowledge of databases as it relates to system integration Customer service orientation Continuous improvement orientation Teamwork focused Self-starter Professional attitude Well organized Detail oriented Problem-solving skills Good communication skills (written and oral)

Preferred: Bachelors degree in accounting, MIS, Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience Two (2) years of progressively responsible business experience or related experience Municipal management or governmental accounting experience Experience using Structured Query Language (SQL) domain-specific language?used to manage data, especially in a relational database management system (RDBMS).
