Description

The Community Services Intern is a qualified undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Community Development, Construction Science, Agricultural Systems Management, Construction Engineer, Structural Engineer, Public Administration or related field. The goal of the internship is to provide the student a meaningful internship experience in the functions and work of a Community Services (Community Development, Code Enforcement, and Northgate District Management) department in a municipal setting.

The Community Services intern’s responsibilities will include applying Federal Regulations to construction projects, participating in project management for public facilities and dwelling units, and exploring areas of interest related to using Federal Grant funds for Public Projects.

Principal Duties

1.Assist with data collection and public outreach which will be used to construct the 5-year Consolidated Plan.

2.Assist with the construction of the Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing plan.

3.Contact local nonprofits to determine needs and gaps in service.

4.Assist with implementation of the City’s Housing Action Plan, including but not limited to research and benchmarking.

  1. Intern will give a weekly presentation to staff on a topic of interns choosing related to planning efforts.

Qualifications

Required:Currently undergraduate or graduate student in the study of in Community Development, Construction Science, Agricultural Systems Management, Public Administration, Urban Planning, Political Science, Government, Sociology, GIS, Statistics or any related field. Knowledge of research techniques, methods, and procedures. Ability to operate a variety of office equipment to include a personal computer and a variety of computer software. Excellent interpersonal skills.

Preferred:Professional municipal government experience.

Interest in construction management, trades or Federal Regulations.

DATES: Summer Semester

HOURS: 20 hours/week
