Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Senior Research Compliance Officer- Human Subject Research/IRB in Cold Spring Harbor, New York

Position Description

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL), a world-renowned biomedical research facility on Long Island's North Shore in New York, is searching for a Senior Research Compliance Officer. This position will primarily support CSHL's Institutional Review Board (IRB) and other institutional activities related to the protection of human subjects in biomedical research, in accordance with federal, state and local regulatory requirements/guidelines. The Senior Research Compliance Officer will report to the Director of Research Operations and take part in all aspects of implementation and oversight of compliance related to human subjects research, including training postdoctoral fellows and graduate students and ensuring research proposed in grant submissions fulfill compliance requirements. They will join a dedicated and vibrant group of research administration professionals focused on supporting the scientific mission of CSHL. This is an excellent opportunity for a PhD trained researcher with interest and experience in the area of human subject research who is seeking a career in research administration at a top biomedical research institute.

Position Responsibilities

  • Review all project submissions involving human subjects;
  • Work with faculty and staff to facilitate IRB submissions;
  • Monitor the status of submissions, reviews and communications between reviewers and faculty;
  • Determine appropriate response and actions for IRB protocols;
  • Develop and implement new educational programs related to research integrity and compliance (with Director of Research Operations);
  • Review and refine existing policies and procedures related to IRB (with Director of Research Operations);
  • Interact with translational and clinical managers to coordinate all new projects and protocols;
  • Develops patient consent forms according to federal regulations;
  • Keeps abreast of federal regulations for all research involving human subject and IRB oversight.
Position Requirements

Education and Experience: PhD in biomedical field preferred; Minimum of a Master's degree in a biomedical field; at least 10 years' postgraduate experience in a biomedical or healthcare setting required. Familiarity of regulatory requirements for human subject research required;

Skills required:

  • Strong scientific background in any of the areas consistent with CSHL research (cancer biology, genomics, neuroscience);
  • Ability to think independently and analyze/solve problems;
  • High attention to detail;
  • Ability to anticipate required work and self-initiate projects that have periodic or cyclical deadlines;
  • Proficient with basic computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with databases a plus;
  • Outstanding communication skills essential

The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
