Fedcap Special Education Teacher- Camp Colonie (Temporary) in Cohoes, New York

We are hiring in Cohoes NY! Join us at Camp Colonie for an exciting summer as a (temporary) Special Education Teacher.

Applicants must be available June 30- August 15 (skip July 4)

Salary Range: $20.00-$30.00/hr

Position Summary:

Camp Colonie is a unique, outdoor summer school and recreational program for for children and young adults 5-21 years of age. The camp provides a supportive and supervised program for individuals with physical, developmental, or emotional disabilities as well as typically developing children and young adults. As a Special Education Teacher, you will provide instruction aligned with IEP goals, overall wellness of students, and both group and individual instruction for the extended school year program

Essential Job Functions:

  • Design a classroom environment that is both motivating and stimulating for students.

  • Provide a daily written lesson plan in appropriate book form. Store book accessibly at the school should the teacher be unexpectedly absent.

  • Maintain periodic progress scales for each pupil and attend case conferences on each student at appropriate intervals during the school year.

  • Implement behavioral system, as approved by treatment team and T.C.I. protocols.

  • Assure that accurate attendance records are maintained and are to be submitted appropriately prior to the completion of the school year.

  • Submit monthly reports to appropriate parties.

  • Attend school-specific and Agency-related staff and/or parent meetings as required.

  • Assure that all students are supervised at all times by a responsible individual who is a paid employee of the agency.

  • Attend annual orientation for staff prior to school opening.

  • Develop a working relationship with the assigned professionals as well as the coordinator of therapeutic classroom activities.

  • Collaborate with the Treatment Team regarding treatment of the children and diagnostic information.

  • Participate in meetings and workshops that would serve as community orientation regarding Easter Seals.

  • Help organize and supervise extracurricular activities.

  • Supervise aides assigned to classroom.

  • Transport students to and from group residence, activities, work, etc. Use of own vehicle is frequent, if not daily.

  • Develop IEPs within 30 days of Admission. Act as coordinator for therapist's reports for IEP meetings.

  • Follow program of Certification developed by the state Department of Education and local Master Plan of the Society

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university.

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.

  • NYS Certification in Special Education K-12 or 7-12.

  • Flexibility, desire to work outdoors and experience with children is preferred.
