This classified position is expected to be of limited duration due to the funding of the position and is designated as a limited-service position.

Position:

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hiring a Lake Management Technician, Technician 2 for the Coeur d’Alene Regional Office.

Salary Range: $19.83 - $21.91

Responsibilities :

· Office duties:

  • Develop sampling plans for field activities.

  • Plan and prepare for field activities, including chains of custody and bottle labels.

  • Enter and manage Coeur d'Alene Lake monitoring program data in data management software.

  • Maintain sampling equipment and calibration records.

    · Field duties:

  • Collect water chemistry samples and in-situ data from Coeur d’Alene Lake following approved quality assurance project plan (QAPP) protocol.

  • Perform aquatic vegetation surveys in Coeur d’Alene Lake.

  • Load, unload, and operate field equipment, including power boats.

  • Perform minor repairs on field equipment.

  • Conduct field monitoring and download data for Coeur d’Alene Lake tributaries.

  • Assist Air Quality Division staff in weather station maintenance and calibration.

  • Support special study and total maximum daily load data collection needs.

  • Monitoring site selection and complaint investigations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

· Laboratory duties:

  • Prepare field equipment following approved QAPP protocol.

  • Prepare sampling containers for sampling events.

  • Calibrate and maintain field and lab equipment using standard operating procedure guides and manufacturer specifications.

  • Download field data from electronic instrumentation.

  • Inventory and order lab and field supplies.

  • Process samples and submit to labs.

    · Education and outreach duties:

  • Plan activities for The Confluence Project , Panhandle Stormwater and Erosion Education Program, Lakeshore Assessment System, and other programs.

  • Implement education and outreach programs.

  • Participate in workshops, outreach booths, local school events, and other outreach events.

  • Investigate and respond to complaints related to water quality in the Coeur d’Alene Basin.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Some knowledge of scientific methods.

    Experience: conducting basic multi-media sampling, monitoring and research; using spreadsheet and word processing software; compiling and collecting data and using computer software to enter data and develop reports, charts or maps.

    Desired Specialty Minimum Qualification

    Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of a motorized boat

    Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit and work on a computer for 2-4 hours at a time.

• Ability to bend and reach for filing purposes.

• Some periods of heavy reading and typing are required.

• Ability to lift 30 pounds when working with file boxes.

• Ability to climb ladders, staircases, work on uneven terrain.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds over rough terrain.

• Ability to work in adverse or inclement weather.

• Ability to work in extreme hot or cold temperatures both outside and inside.

• Ability to work on elevated instrument platforms, ladders, etc.

• Field sites may involve working near and with drilling rigs, backhoes, trucks and other large equipment in rough terrain.

• Must be able to swim and perform field monitoring work without on-site assistance or supervision

• May work in the vicinity of loud noise.

• May come into contact with hazardous waste/materials.

Other Requirements:

· Valid driver’s license

· Occasional travel required
