Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Millwright to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining machinery and equipment in a shipyard environment. This role involves working from blueprints, using hand tools, and performing safe rigging and lifting. The ideal candidate will have experience with hydraulic systems, pumps, and mechanical maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Install and repair pumps, motors, main propulsion and auxiliary generators, propellers and shafting, main bearing, shaft bearings, compressors, hydraulic units, and their ancillary components.

  • Dismantle, repair, or replace defective parts and reassemble machinery using machinist's tools, chain hoists, and steel rollers.

  • Perform safe rigging, lifting, and setting of heavy equipment.

  • Install auxiliary equipment such as evaporators, stills, heaters, pumps, condensers, and boilers, and connect them to pipe systems.

  • Use alignment equipment on main shaft and rudder stock lines, stern tube, and strut bearing lines.

  • Operate machinery and establish benchmarks for main propulsion engines and marine gears.

  • Test all installed or repaired machinery and equipment during dock trials and sea trials.

  • Perform final alignment of pumps, motors, shafts, prop shafts, reduction gears, and main engines without assistance.

  • Direct other craft assigned as support.

  • Set up and operate boring bars, portable air drills, and grinders, as well as rigging equipment such as chain falls, ratchet hoists, lifting straps, shackles, eye bolts, and cables.

  • Install hydraulic equipment.

  • Communicate effectively with Engineering, Project Management, and suppliers.

  • May be assigned miscellaneous tasks outside the craft as needed.

Essential Skills

  • 3+ years of maintenance experience in industrial or marine settings.

  • Ability to read blueprints.

  • Experience in repairing and maintaining hydraulic systems.

  • Ability to repair pump systems.

  • Comfortable working outside and in various weather conditions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience in welding, mechanical maintenance, and preventive maintenance.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $28.00/hr.
