TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION E150 Drafter II or III - Johnson County Area Office in CLEBURNE, Texas

A Day in the life of a Drafter II may include:- Drafting designs- Field investigation- Plan review- Creating funding proposals- Providing status updates on projects with TxDOT Leadership- Meeting with subject matter experts on plans and designs- Other duties as assignedDrafter II:Performs intermediate drafting and calculations and basic design work; performs field work; uses automated systems. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Drafter III:Performs advanced drafting and calculations and intermediate design work; performs field work; uses automated systems [andlearns specialized procedures. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who hasfinal approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusualissues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Drafter II:Learns to write general notes and special provisions on specifications.Performs basic design work.Performs intermediate drafting and calculations in support of design activities; accomplishes non-routine and complexassignments.Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.Uses automated programs, interactive graphics and the Design and Construction Information System.Files and makes copies.Prepares field notes.Works on reproduction of plans.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Additional duties for a Drafter III:Learns additional automated design methods or specialized design procedures in areas including bridge/culvert detailing,traffic management, geometric design, signal/lighting design, retaining walls and building design.Performs intermediate design work.Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.Writes general notes, specifications and provisions.Assists in on-the-job training of less experienced technicians.Attends specialized design schools.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
