Job Description:

This position supports strategic programs essential to maintaining U.S. Armed Forces’ readiness. The successful Associate Manager, Manufacturing Engineering will be responsible for overseeing work in the areas of manufacturing engineering and technical production support. This individual will have responsibility to ensure group goals and objectives are met, review and make recommendations on policies and procedures to maximize group operating performance, identify technical issues of future importance, and provide guidance to the team on development, performance, and productivity issues. This position is responsible for moderate understanding of the overall organization and typically supervises engineers, technicians, and co-ops.

Essential Functions:

  • Direct engineering work for manufacturing engineers and technicians supporting production and development programs.

  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines and departments in the performance of meeting technical, cost, and schedule requirements.

  • Monitor daily manufacturing operations. Actively assist and provide direction to subordinates as required.

  • Oversee the completion of engineering work on programs and support functions performed by the department.

  • Establish clear performance objectives for each employee aligned with Strategic Goal Deployment objectives. Provide routine performance feedback to achieve or exceed all stated objectives.

  • Analyze, make recommendations, and prepare capital requests.

  • Manage Strategic Goal Deployment metrics. Lead or participate in company improvement initiatives.

  • Assist in evaluating and selecting internal and external talent to ensure the best match between the individual and the work requirements.

  • Contribute to staffing budget estimates to maintain technical competency and capacity within the assigned group.

  • Conduct performance reviews, execute personnel adjustments, listen to and respond to grievances, and review and approve time cards and expense reports.

  • Travel to outside locations in pursuit of departmental and company objectives.

  • Act in place of the department manager as required.

  • Perform the job duties of a Manufacturing Engineer. Typical duties include:

  • Analyze engineering design documents and develop the methods, processes, tools, jigs, fixtures, etc. required to fabricate the specified product

  • Develop and prepare work instructions, control plans, Process Failure Mode Effects Analyses (PFMEAs), and process validation plans

  • Lead the set-up and validation of new production lines and training

  • Monitor production key performance indicators and respond accordingly to ensure goals are being met

  • Analyze manufacturing production problems and implement corrective actions involving designs, materials, and processes

  • Respond to requests for proposal

  • Provide technical expertise and support related to manufacturing

  • Conduct capacity analyses, capability studies, and gage repeatability and reproducibility studies

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum 6 years prior relevant experience OR Graduate Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

  • Technical experience working in a manufacturing engineering environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team.

  • Experience in multi-tasking and interfacing with all levels of management and effectively interfacing with customers

  • Proficient level with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel)

  • Able to obtain a Secret Clearance from the U.S. Government which requires U.S Citizenship

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Bachelor degree in Manufacturing Engineering

  • Hands on electronics or electro-mechanical assembly experience.

  • 2-5 years of management or supervisory experience in directing engineers or technicians

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in drawing practices, engineering analysis, DoD development programs, procurement, integration, assembly, and test of hardware

  • Experience in the defense or aerospace industry

  • Experience with pressing, staking, riveting, swaging, potting, electronics soldering, conformal coating, packaging, X-ray inspection, laser welding, robotics, and control systems

  • Experience with ANSI J-STD-001, AS9100, and ANSI Y14.5

  • Experience with SolidEdge and Minitab

  • Experience with 6sig, 8D, CostPoint, TipQA
