Job Summary

Responsible for managing the planning, coordination, inspection, and overall administration of the Transmission or Distribution vegetation management program within a geographic area of AEP, to include the supervision of Utility Foresters and administrative staff executing the program. Provide leadership, direction, training, coordination, and effective communication to initiate, plan, execute, and monitor and control, the vegetation management program in a safe, efficient, economical, risk-balanced approach to achieve short and long range goals. Develop relationships and effectively communicate with all stakeholders including internal customers, external customers, team members, suppliers, contractors, vendors, and industry peers.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1) Plan, organize, direct, coordinate and supervise the vegetation management program as well as provide training and direct supervision of others executing and leading these activities.

2) Support and hold employees and contractors accountable for the AEP System Safety Process, ensuring a safe working environment focused on "Commitment to Zero Harm".

3) Supervise, develop, review and coordinate the vegetation management plan, schedule, and budget, as well as provide direct supervision of others leading these activities. Effectively project and manage cost, ensure compliance with AEP Accounting rules, and reallocate funding, as necessary.

4) Effectively communicate program details and routinely provide status updates. Lead planning meetings and project updates including detailed and complex stakeholder presentations. Ensure those supervised are adequately and effectively prepared to execute their assigned areas of the program. Provide clear and concise written reports.

5) Develop and actively manage working relationships with operating company and transmission staff, as appropriate; internal and external customers or partners, contractors, vendors, and suppliers. Actively participate in Customer Experience initiatives and processes, foster teamwork and actively monitor customer satisfaction.

6) Provide a wide range of detailed guidance, instruction, and training to others to improve vegetation management systems, processes, procedures, schedules, and costs. Confidently challenge others at a high level of informed understanding in vegetation management work.

7) Keep informed on utility vegetation management practices and procedures, including the use of herbicides and growth inhibitors, and advise all stakeholders accordingly.

8) Apply and keep informed of current contract provisions, as well as participate in the development and analysis of new contracts.

9) Supervise employees, as assigned, including duties such as well-written performance plans. Provide active support to direct reports in execution of the vegetation management plan.

10) Represent AEP, as required, with external customers, vendors, regulators, and in legal proceedings.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENS:

Education requirements are listed below: Bachelor Degree in Forestry, Arboriculture or a related field and a minimum of six (6) years' experience in utility vegetation management. Associate Degree in one of the same fields and a minimum of eight (8) years' experience in utility vegetation management. High school diploma and a minimum of ten (10) years' experience in utility vegetation management.

Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below: Certified Pesticide Applicator's License required; ISA Certification as Arborist / Utility Specialist required, if Forestry Supervisor does not hold either a Bachelor or Associate Degree in Forestry, Arboriculture or a related field.
