Job Description

Individual is responsible for reviewing holistic relationship of high risk US Capital Markets (CM) and Private Wealth Management (PWM) customers, including changes to the customer’s profile, relevant negative news, PEP exposure, transactional activity, and re-assessment of risk rating.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Perform high risk customer due diligence across the US customer segments, including, but not limited to CM, PWM, and Alternative Investment Funds.

  • Complete periodic reviews for high risk clients, including review of customer profile/history, analysis of transactional activity, identification of negative news and positive sanctions matches, and re-assessment of client risk ratings.

  • Maintain and update US CM and PWM procedures and job aids, offering suggestions related to best practices, efficiencies, and updates to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Foster strong, collaborative relationships with members of US AML, Enterprise AML, and US Risk Management.

AUTHORITIES/DECISION RIGHTS

As a key contributor to the US AML group, this role recommends changes to US CM and PWM Periodic Review processes and procedures to ensure relevant regulatory requirements are documented and processes are developed and implemented in the most effective and efficient manner to achieve regulatory compliance and appropriate management of risk.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Prior AML/BSA investigative experience preferred;

  • General understanding of CM and PWM customers, products, and services preferred;

  • Undergraduate degree in related field (e.g., pre-law, political science, criminal justice, economics, finance, accounting) combined with at least 3 years demonstrated experience in compliance or financial services field preferred;

  • Sound knowledge of AML regulations, and underpinning governance and control requirements;

  • Highly motivated, disciplined self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communications;

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail;

  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams at any given time;

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

  • The role currently operates within a hybrid in-office + remote environment

  • Speaking up if witnessing behaviors that drive poor or unfair outcomes for clients, team members or other stakeholders

  • Escalating matters that can result in adverse market practices and outcomes, thereby negatively impacting CIBC’s reputation as a leading financial institution
