Description

We are seeking a Staff Accountant to join our team in Chicago, Illinois. In this role, you will be responsible for recording financial transactions, handling banking services, executing accounts payable functions, and providing excellent customer service. Your role will also include assisting with the preparation of financial statements, creating journal entries, and preparing accurate account reconciliations.

Responsibilities:

• Record financial transactions accurately and timely using QuickBooks Pro Online

• Handle banking services including check, credit card, and investment transactions

• Perform accounts payable function using QuickBooks Pro Online

• Assist in preparing financial statements and audit workpapers

• Create and document various journal entries

• Prepare timely and accurate account reconciliations

• Follow up on NSF checks and unclaimed checks

• Handle administrative tasks such as sorting mail, obtaining signatures, scanning tax forms, mailing documents

• Report any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests

• Adhere to all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs

• Complete all child abuse prevention training as required.

Requirements

• Possessing skills in Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)

• Demonstrated experience with Bank Reconciliations

• Proficiency in managing General Ledger

• Ability to prepare and analyze Journal Entries

• Familiarity with Month End Close procedures

• Experience with QuickBooks

• Proficiency in using QuickBooks Pro

• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel

• Knowledge of Fund Accounting in a Non-Profit setting

• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or similar field preferred

• Professional certification such as CPA is a plus.
