The Divinity School at the University of Chicago invites applications for an Assistant Instructional Professor to teach annually six courses in the Divinity School and the College. This appointment will involve teaching undergraduate, master\'s, and doctoral students at beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. The initial appointment is for a three-year term, beginning as early as July 1, 2025, with the possibility of renewal. The salary (nine months) and benefits are competitive, commensurate with experience.

Salary Range

Assistant Instructional Professor: \$73,117 - \$78,965. This base pay range is for a nine-month academic appointment.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. by the time of appointment and expertise in Eastern Christianity during the Middle Ages, especially the many forms of Christianity in the Middle East, with focus on manuscripts and archive materials in Greek, Syriac, Armenian, and Christian Arabic.

Each application must include: 1) a curriculum vitae; 2) a cover letter (no longer than 3 pages) that addresses professional and teaching experience; 3) a teaching portfolio including a teaching statement (not to exceed 750 words) describing the methods and goals in teaching a text (applicants should write about a text of their own choosing); 4) names and contact information for three references; 5) syllabi of courses previously taught and/or sample syllabi for proposed courses; and 6) evidence of teaching effectiveness, such as teaching evaluations (not older than three years) or performance reviews, if available.
