Job Summary

Provides overall vision, leadership, and strategic direction for the OQ Skill Evaluation Process to support Field Construction, Field Ops, and Locating, QA/QC Processes and for the OQ Skill Evaluations Processes cross the 6 state NiSource footprint. Oversees strategic direction of the NiSource Welding Technical Training Program. Provides leadership and direction to the department leadership staff in line with the organizations vision and values. Drives the development of departmental plans to achieve short term and long range goals in support of overall Pipeline Safety and Compliance business needs. Provides guidance and support to staff to ensure professional development and to accomplish department objectives. Provides overall supervision and accountability for the Capital and O&M budgets identified to carry out these tasks. Builds and develops strategic internal/external relationships to help achieve department objectives. Facilitates and encourage the improvement of existing processes, policies and procedures. Monitors and evaluates the performance of the staff to ensure the completion of goals and department objectives. Collaborates with peers within NiSource Gas Distribution to ensure effective solutions.

The OQ Skill Evaluation Group will develop and carry out OQ strategies and processes to migrate NGD to a structural field evaluation process for all Construction and O&M Operating task activities. These processes should include specific guidelines for the inspections and testing, and technology based using tablet or smartphone platforms for providing consistent and timely reporting of all inspections and testing. This includes accountability for the inspecting and testing data capture processes (including contractor qualifications), and the transfer process to the QA/QC and OQ data bases of record.

Essential Functions

  • Communicates key messages regarding the organizations vision and values

  • Establishes implementation plans for objectives and goals

  • Identifies and explores opportunities to develop or improve internal/external partnerships

  • Identifies areas for departmental improvements and develops plans to achieve them

  • Develops methods to measure the performance of the department that are linked with NiSource business goals

  • Leads diverse team of qualified individuals with authority to hire, terminate, promote, demote, coach, develop and performance manage.

  • Identifies development opportunities for leadership team

  • Develops strategic long-range facility plans

  • Partners with appropriate stakeholders to ensure the exceptional delivery of support services

  • Works with Operations leadership and all other appropriate stakeholders to develop strategies and procedures to address audit finding, OQ Skill qualification issues and welding technical training issues in all 6 NI distribution business units.

  • Assists in the execution of all departmental operating plan objectives and goals

  • Ensures strong strategic internal/external partnerships

  • Implements effective improvements for existing departmental policies, procedures, and practices

  • Meets O&M budget goals

  • Utilizes meaningful metrics to drive performance and ensure accountability

  • Ensures positive relationships with federal and state regulators

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications For Position

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years of experience with qualifications listed

  • Strong technical knowledge of: All Construction and Field Ops. Covered tasks and related activities.

  • A strong knowledge of Federal Code related to O&M and P&P requirements as well as State expectations, Processes, or mandates (formal or informal), across the NI footprint, and a general understanding of the IT links needed to integrate the QA/QC and OQ Skill Evaluation data bases into a comprehensive information system.

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities in an operations department

  • Knowledge of applicable codes and compliance issues

  • Familiarity with common computer applications (i.e. MS Office)

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Familiarity with Company budgeting processes and systems

  • Knowledge of Company policies and procedures relative to operations

  • Demonstrated competency in budget origination, management and forecasting

  • Working knowledge of NiSource policies, procedures and standards

  • Knowledge of gas utility infrastructure

  • Valid Motor Vehicle License Upon Hire

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

  • Engineering and Operations proficiency gained through previous experience

  • Thorough knowledge of NiSource compliance and safety issues

  • Proficiency in budgeting & forecasting

Salary Range:

$150,900.00 - $226,300.00
