Actalent Mechanical Design Engineer in Chesapeake, Virginia

Job Title: Mechanical Design EngineerJob Description

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing applicable products with the use of CAD (2D and 3D) systems. This role involves generating production drawings for in-house and subcontracted shops, managing mechanical projects from start to finish, and maintaining customer relations. The successful candidate will also execute technical calculations to ensure the safety and integrity of mechanical custom components, prepare technical documentation, and conduct product inspections. Leadership responsibilities include guiding and supporting the development of other engineering staff members, creating communication documentation, and maintaining release packages and design history files. Additional duties may be assigned by company leadership.

Hard Skills

  • Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in Mechanical Engineering

  • Advanced skills to perform technically challenging tasks without supervision

  • Designing custom specific technical components for special customer applications

  • Proficiency in CAD (2D and 3D) systems

Soft Skills

  • Customer relations

  • Leadership and guidance

  • Co-operation and co-ordination with manufacturing personnel

  • Ability to support revenue targets by supporting application team, product and project managers

Job Type

This is a permanent position.

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Work Environment

The role requires 15-20% travel, which may increase to 30% in the first year for training and customer site visits. The successful candidate must be eligible for or already possess a passport and be prepared to travel within the first month. Travel durations may vary but will generally take place during the working week. There may be an opportunity to travel to Austria for training in the first year. The position is 100% onsite.
