Job Summary

Plans, schedules, coordinates and performs I&C/NERC Cyber Security engineering work for the analysis, specification, design, development, installation, test, maintenance, and repair of real time process monitoring/control systems, including digital control systems, and related technical computer software applications for power generating stations for the Non-Nuclear Generating Fleet.

Work assignments may include the development and implementation of interfaces, including custom interfaces, with existing plant process systems and equipment.

Performs work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and application of engineering techniques, procedures, and standards, but which may include a variety of conflicting requirements or constraints and difficult coordination requirements.

Must be able to interpret, adapt and apply software quality assurance requirements and engineering standards to situations which are not straight forward and for which little procedural guidance is available.

May function as technical project lead for software/hardware systems as assigned including coordinating the work of engineers, systems analysts, programmer analysts, technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments.

Develop or assist in development of technical specifications for procure of system/equipment for reliable performance. Development or revision of processes/standards related to guidance and development of best practice engineering standards. Develops and performs Design Changes (DCN’s) as required.

May possess and use specialized knowledge and expertise in one or more areas of a discipline or plant systems. Assist or lead troubleshooting activities for plant events and assist in the development and can lead root cause and failure modes development and analysis. Performs other tasks as required by business needs.

Supervision Received

Independently performs assignments with general instructions as to objective, scope, schedule, and expected results. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems from higher level engineers or first line manager. Receives administrative and technical guidance as needed from first line manager.

Skills and Proficiencies (May be job or organization specific)

Demonstrated proficiency in the following as applied to real time control system and process control systems:

System software/hardware specification and design; Software code/Hardware management/configuration control; System configuration and integration; Software quality assurance; System analysis and troubleshooting; Hardware installation, test, and maintenance; Control system networks; Knowledge in NFPA or other industry standard related to I&C; Engineering Economy; Fossil, Gas, Hydro plant operation & Maintenance including system knowledge for plant process control.

Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard)

Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements

B.S. Degree in electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, nuclear or chemical engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, or equivalent B.S. Degree (ABET accredited) with demonstrated work history. Desirable electrical or instrumentation engineering degree.

Several years of professional experience in the area of process control with several years experience with process control of electric generation equipment. Demonstrated proficiency in technical writing such as software documentation, procedures and technical reports. Demonstrated working-level proficiency in the skills and proficiencies listed above.

Professional engineering license and membership in a professional engineering society is desirable.

Must be willing and able to travel to plant locations as required for fleet support. Ability to assume assignments which may include 24 hour-a-day, on-call support for emergent fleet support.
