The Chief Accounting Office is seeking an energetic and results-oriented Technical Accounting and Policy Director to join our team! This position plays an instrumental role providing support to the company’s accounting and financial reporting functions and initiatives. This team member is responsible for working to improve accounting policies, processes and controls, serving as a key technical resource on complex accounting transactions and implementing new accounting standards and updates. This role requires someone who can proactively identify challenges and actively work to find solutions.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead a variety of accounting & reporting initiatives to ensure compliance with accounting policies.

  • Lead knowledge sharing initiatives related to accounting for business transactions and emerging accounting and reporting guidance.

  • Research, prepare and/or review memorandum, presentations and/or policies regarding complex accounting and reporting transactions.

  • Provide guidance including reviewing and providing feedback on work products and development.

  • Manage the development, documentation, review and updating of business processes and accounting policies in order to maintain and strengthen internal financial controls

  • Lead implementation of new and emerging policy developments and disclosure standards for all accounting bases (US GAAP & STAT)

  • Maintain and grow insurance industry and emerging knowledge for US GAAP and STAT accounting by attending seminars and industry events and seeking out educational workshops, classes, and related publications.

  • Liaise with Finance, Actuarial, Investments, Risk, and other stakeholders to identify and advise on accounting and reporting impacts of potential business transactions.

  • Proactively manage relationships with external auditors (PWC), AllianceBernstein, internal business partners and third party consultants such as benefit plan actuaries.

  • Interact with relevant Business and IT stakeholders to prioritize cross-functional support to ensure that adequate financial controls, accounting, and reporting are maintained.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and make constructive suggestions for change.

In office schedule: This employee will need to work in office 2 to 3 days per week.

The base salary range for this position is $105,000 - $150,000. Actual base salaries vary based on skills, experience, and geographical location. In addition to base pay, Equitable provides compensation to reward performance with base salary increases, spot bonuses, and short-term incentive compensation opportunities. Eligibility for these programs depends on level and functional area of responsibility.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree

  • PA and/or CPA

  • 10 years of accounting experience

  • 5 years technical knowledge of US GAAP accounting theory, controls and reporting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Statutory accounting theory, controls and reporting.

  • Capability to present financial data to Senior management to facilitate business decisions.

  • Knowledge of life insurance concepts.

  • Proven research and project management skills.

  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal/relationship management skills.

  • Proven orientation towards process improvement and problem solving.

  • Ability to proactively identify challenges and actively work to find solutions.

  • Critical thinking skills and the capability to translate concepts into next steps and ideas.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and lead the assessment and implementation of new accounting policies.

Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
