Location:

Roper Hospital in the dispatch office in the Doughty Garage located at 316 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29401.

Schedule:

7:00am to 7:00pm. Position is 3 days 1 week and 4 the other including every other weekend.

Job Summary:

Engineering Dept: Provides clerical support, clerical functions and dispatching to ensure cost-effective measures of operations, optimal lines of communication, and promotes effective support of the Engineering Department. Enters work orders in the maintenance management software program.

LifeLink: The main contact for requesting, coordinating and tracking the transport process for the service. Gives and receives information vital to the successful planning and transportation of patients. Correctly registers patients being transported, as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Graduate or equivalent.

Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in the clerical or dispatcher field, preferred experience in a Health Care Environment. Experience in radio communications, fleet tracking, 911 or private ambulance dispatcher experience preferably for LifeLink positions.

Licensure/Certification: Positions in Engineering Dept must have a current valid SC Drivers License or obtain a valid SC Driver’s License within ninety (90) days of employment.

EMD certification preferred for LifeLink.

Knowledge/Skills: Must type a minimum of 35 wpm, ability to work under pressure with constant interruptions. Demonstrates professionalism and confidentiality. Must be able to handle irate “customers”, both in person and on the telephone. Must have experience working with computers and various software applications. Operates office equipment such as photocopier, fax machine and calculator, etc. Must have excellent telephone communication.

Other: This position requires operation of a vehicle for Roper St. Francis Healthcare business. Due to this job requirement, the selected candidate/employee must possess a valid, current South Carolina driver's license. In addition, the selected candidate/employee must be insurable under the Roper St. Francis Healthcare vehicle insurance plan, which will be verified by reviewing licensure and driving record.

Contacts:

Interaction with internal and external customers to include (but not limited to) patients, families, physicians, employees and visitors.

Work Demands/Environment:

Requires frequent sitting and possible long periods of working at a computer. Intermittent walking, standing, stooping, bending. May require lifting or moving items up to 30 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Minimal risk of exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, and/or irregular hours. Ability to read and comprehend.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Dispatching: Answers telephone calls for work requests and obtains proper information from the caller. Prioritize and dispatch work requests in a timely manner and ensure technicians are dispatched accordingly. Effectively communicates with and elicit information from upset and irate customers, exercise good judgment and make appropriate decisions in emergency situations. Provide customers with assistance or obtains the necessary assistance to meet the customer’s needs. Ensure proper data and accurate information from work requests entered into the computer maintenance software program.

  2. Clerical Support: Answers incoming telephone calls for the department, routes calls and takes messages. Review, sort, prioritize and forward incoming mail. Screen visitors/guests as appropriate. Type memos and documents. Assist with duplication and distribution of correspondence, reports, informational packages, etc. as assigned. Set up or revise filing systems and create, gather, search, purge, close, retrieve information from, sort and file a variety of printed and/or recorded materials. Assist with the production of ID badges, vehicle passes, etc. Makes approved changes, enters new equipment and preventative maintenance procedures in the Preventative Maintenance program.

Performs other job duties and responsibilities as required.
