Job Title: Maintenance Technician - Lead
Department: Manufacturing

General Function: The Maintenance Technician Lead responsibilities include assisting Maintenance Manager in ensuring the facility and all equipment are operating and maintained to produce food products at a high level of quality, at the most efficient cost, in a timely and complete manner.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversees work of assigned maintenance team.
Addresses minor discipline problems with team members.
Assist with planning and preparation of training and orientation for new maintenance team members.
Collaborates with team members to discuss upcoming work assignments.
Machine setup, establish ongoing, and monitor preventive maintenance programs at the Shortcuts Hy-Vee Commissary.
Order parts, complete purchase orders, turn in receipts.
Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and maintain machinery and equipment.
Performs mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electric, pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
Solid knowledge of food manufacturing equipment, including processing and packaging lines a plus.
Perform a variety of building maintenance including carpentry & plumbing functions.
The ability to read wiring and Pneumatic schematics.
Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties.
Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
Working knowledge of AC and DC Drive systems.
Conduct electrical and mechanical repairs as assigned.
Analyzes significant equipment failures to determine root cause of failures.
Identify areas to improve equipment performance and reliability.
Perform pre- and post-operational checks of equipment ensuring operating safety devices function properly upon completion of repairs, modifications and installations.
Ensure the adherence to safe work practices and procedures including using lock out/tag out procedures and confined space rules and regulations.
Lead and participate in the installation of equipment; make modifications to equipment for maximum treatment process performance.
Weld and machine fabricate parts and equipment for plant systems.
Maintain efficient records on operations and activities; prepare a variety of reports on data; generate records of repairs and maintenance as necessary.
Assists with other maintenance department personnel as needed.
Reports to work when scheduled and on time. Weekends when needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:
Extensive knowledge of building systems such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills

Knowledge of current OSHA guidelines and other safety regulations

Must understand automation and utilize software to troubleshoot control issues
Education and Experience:
High school education or equivalent. 1-2 years maintenance experience. Management experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Must be able to be on feet (standing and walking) for 8-12 hours a day.
Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Must be able to work long hours at times under extreme temperatures
Working Conditions:
The duties of this position are performed mostly in the production area, which is wet and refrigerated (@38 degrees).
Frequent deadlines exist while handling multiple tasks.
Working directly with employees, technicians and vendors.
Exposure to confined spaces , crawl areas, electrical panels, pneumatics, hydraulics, plumbing, ammonia lines, liquid nitrogen lines, gas lines
Equipment Used to Perform Job:
Trade school training or equivalent experience a plus, personal Computer, pallet jack, forklift, telescopic forklift, scissor lift, ladders, industrial equipment, a wide array of hand tools both electric and manual, multi-meter, and welder
Contacts: Has daily contact with contractors, employees and suppliers/vendors. Has occasional contact with federal or state regulatory agencies regarding inspections.
