MITRE’s National Security Accelerator Program (https://careers.mitre.org/us/en/national-security-accelerator-program) is seeking highly motivated, late-early and early-mid career candidates passionate about solving problems for a safer world. This program will provide unique work opportunities, onboarding, and mentoring to build your skills as a future leader. You will interact with a diverse group of program peers, MITRE national security leaders, and staff solving real-world problems. Over the course of this structured six-month program, you will hone your skills and develop strong professional networks in the national security sector and across our Innovation Centers, helping solve critical national challenges. Before transitioning to MITRE’s permanent national security staff, you will benefit from the following program pillars:

Roles & Responsibilities:

As a vital member of MITRE's Acquisition Advisory team, you will collaborate closely with government sponsors, acquisition specialists, and internal stakeholders to address complex acquisition challenges crucial to national security initiatives. Leveraging your expertise in acquisition and procurement, you will contribute to the development and implementation of effective acquisition strategies and solutions. At the conclusion of the program, you will become an integral part of MITRE’s National Security Sector, equipped with a solid understanding of acquisition processes and poised to support future endeavors within the company.

From guiding acquisition efforts to ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, you will utilize your acquisition knowledge, analytical skills, and collaborative abilities to tackle a diverse range of challenges essential to mission success. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and supporting acquisition efforts across their lifecycle, from conceptualization to post-award contract management, to ensure the successful realization of procurement objectives.

  • Advising government sponsors on acquisition strategy, roadmap development, and the formulation of actionable acquisition solutions to achieve desired outcomes.

  • Developing acquisition artifacts, including requirements documents, requests for proposals, and acquisition plans, to support procurement activities effectively.

  • Providing acquisition support, such as market analysis, cost analysis, and contract changes, to inform decision-making and drive efficiency in procurement processes.

  • Participating in source selection activities, recommending evaluation factors, and analyzing proposal data to facilitate informed decision-making by government sponsors.

  • Collaborating closely with technical, cost, and procurement teams to ensure alignment of acquisition products with technical, schedule, and programmatic requirements.

  • Staying abreast of changes in acquisition regulations and policies to ensure compliance and adaptability in acquisition practices.

  • Promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing within the organization to enhance acquisition expertise and address sponsor challenges effectively.

  • Communicating acquisition-related analyses and recommendations clearly and concisely through written and verbal channels to stakeholders and partners.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Economics, Public Administration, or a related discipline with Minimum of 5 years of related experience in acquisition, procurement, or contracting, or Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or PhD with relevant experience.

  • Solid understanding of acquisition principles, practices, and regulations.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical areas relevant to acquisition, such as contract management, source selection, and requirements development.

  • Knowledge of tools and methodologies commonly used in acquisition, including FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation), DFARS (Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement), and other applicable regulations.

  • Experience engaging with government agencies, departments, and external partners in the context of acquisition and procurement activities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex acquisition concepts clearly and effectively to diverse stakeholders.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Active Top Secret/SCI Clearance

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors and 8 years of experience in acquisition, procurement, or contracting, with a focus on defense or national security applications or Master’s with 6 years

  • Proven track record of working on acquisition projects for one or more government agencies, preferably within the Intelligence Community or Department of Defense.

  • Demonstrated interdisciplinary background, showcasing continual learning and adaptation to new acquisition technologies and concepts.

  • Advanced expertise in acquisition, including but not limited to:

  • Advanced acquisition strategy development and analysis.

  • In-depth understanding and application of acquisition regulations and policies.

  • Proficiency in source selection processes and methodologies.

  • Experience in contract negotiation and administration.

  • Familiarity with Department of Defense (DoD) acquisition lifecycle and procurement processes.

  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in acquisition, including digital acquisition, agile procurement methods, and data-driven decision-making.

  • Advanced proficiency in relevant tools and software used in acquisition management, such as Contract Writing Systems (CWS) and electronic procurement platforms.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply acquisition principles to complex challenges.

  • Experience collaborating with external partners and industry experts on acquisition strategy development and implementation initiatives.
