Sr. Cost Accountant (Staff Accountant)

Job Purpose

To assist the Plant Controller and other personnel in performing financial accounting and purchasing functions.

Job Context & Major Challenges

  • Knowledge of IFRS and standard cost accounting in a process cost environment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Preferred: Four-year degree in accounting or business administration with significant accounting coursework and 5-10 years of experience.

  • Knowledge of computerized accounting systems like SAP.

Principal Accountabilities

  1. Production Costs Analysis & Closing Transactions (20%)

  2. Utilize SAP modules and engage with plant functional teams as required.

  3. Monthly Reporting & Analysis (20%)

  4. Use Excel, Word, and PowerPoint to develop analysis formats for proper communication.

  5. Fixed Cost Analysis & Performance Tracking (15%)

  6. Engage with functional teams to understand deviations, provide management updates, and develop projections.

  7. Working Capital Analysis & Forecasting (15%)

  8. Work closely with production, procurement, and sales to understand current and future working capital needs.

  9. Capital Expenditure Projects & Evaluations (15%)

  10. Coordinate with plant leadership to analyze capital projects for corporate approval.

  11. Support Plant Controller in Annual Budgets & Operating Plans (15%)

  12. Engage with site teams and corporate offices to build quarterly forecasts and annual budgets.

Relationships

  • Internal:

  • Maintenance Manager, Operations Manager, General Manager, Controller: Ensure day-to-day needs are met.

  • External:

  • Corporate Accounting: Maintain a mutually beneficial business relationship.

Organizational Requirements

  • Education: Four-year degree in accounting or business administration with significant accounting coursework.

  • Experience: 5-10 years in a relevant role.

  • Knowledge: SAP, IFRS, process cost environment, Microsoft Office applications.
