JOB GOAL:

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
This position plays a key role in ensuring equal access to the educational opportunities for a student with a disability by providing accommodation support and assistance within the classroom environment. This position will join a team of individuals focused on advocacy, service and support of students with disabilities. The Reader/Scribe will work independently under the supervision of Accommodation Services to provide one on one support to a student in the classroom. The ideal individual has well-developed verbal skills and vocabulary, is a strong oral reader with a good command of the English language.
The work schedule for this position is Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. This position is a direct student support position and hours are subject to change with student's schedule.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Read class content directly to student
Record answers that are verbally dictated by student
Provide 1 on 1 support to a student in the classroom
Reader Responsibilities
Read assignments or tasks accurately to the student
Only read the instructions of the tasks at hand and must not explain or clarify questions
Describe visual elements of class content
May repeat the instructions of an assignment but only if the student requests to do so
May be asked to reread
Scribe Responsibilities:
Write accurately, and at a reasonable speed
Write a correction if requested to do so
Refer any problems in communication
Must not give the answer to the student or lead a student to an answer
At the student’s request, repeat what has been recorded
May be asked to record notes, either handwritten or typed.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:
Position involves working in a classroom and/or lab setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:
Well-developed verbal and writing skills
Strong oral reader with a good command of the English language
Experience with individuals with disabilities
