Overview The Iron County Office for Utah State Extension is seeking a qualified individual to lead engaging afterschool programs for students in Iron County. Educator positions are open at various elementary and middle school sites. Educators will cover a diverse range of subjects, including STEM, youth development, social and emotional learning, 4-H Discover curriculum, and life skills.

School educators must be available to teach four days a week during the following times:

  • Elementary Assignment: 3:30 pm-6:30 pm
  • Middle School Assignment: 2:30 pm-5:30 pm
  • This position requires up to 15 hours of work per week.

Responsibilities Primary Duties:

  • Collaborate closely with all 4-H After-school staff to deliver impactful programming that benefits youth and families.
  • Actively promote 4-H After-school programs to engage the community and attract participants.
  • Provide daily instruction to students using the provided curriculum, ensuring engaging and effective learning experiences.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily student attendance to monitor participation and ensure accountability.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and youth about after-school programs and schedules to keep them informed and engaged.
  • Collaborate with school site locations to cultivate strong partnerships and relationships among staff and administration. Programming Responsibilities:

  • Instruct students using curriculum provided by the After-school Coordinator.

  • Manage student behavior and keep youth engaged in programming activities.
  • Act in a professional manner with students and parents.
  • Help students with homework and provide targeted tutoring daily.
  • Participate in Back to School events and teacher professional development days to recruit students for 4-H After-school programs.
  • Respond to all communications in a timely manner. Professional Development:

  • Attend all mandatory professional development trainings for after-school programs.

  • Obtain and maintain food handler permits and CPR certification. 4-H After-school Family Night Outs:

  • Attend Family Night Out activities on a monthly basis.

  • Ensure all supplies are properly stored and the facility is left clean and organized after each event.

  • Train mentors to work with youth and provide supervision.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience working with youth.
  • Experience working and/or desire to work with youth and their families
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Must be available for all hours of program operation Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with after-school programs

  • Skills in social media and other forms of marketing
  • 4-H experience
  • Curriculum planning or education experience Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High degree of self-motivation
