The Global Procurement organization is team made up of more than 350 associates across US, Latam, EMEA and APAC. Global Procurement is a key enabler aligned to the Next Horizon strategy leveraging an Efficiency Mindset to Win the Future and being accountable for optimizing indirect supply, supplier management and payments for $7B+ USD worldwide. The U.S. Global Procurement organization consists of the following functions:

  • IT Category Management

  • Corporate Services Category Management - Professional Services, Human Resources, Marketing and Print & Promotional, Business & Advisory Consulting, Real Estate & Office Services and Treasury & Banking Services

  • Strategic Sourcing

  • Source to Pay

The Team You Will Join

MetLife is currently undergoing an enterprise transformation journey emphasizing its people, process optimization, and digital strategy. Global Procurement, part of Global Technology & Operations (GTO), has been assessing its operating model and key areas in technology and operating processes have been identified as critical to our success and further alignment to the greater enterprise goals. The Assistant Sourcing Consultant will be assisting and partnering with our internal stakeholders to support our cost control initiative and optimize our supplier engagement throughout the sourcing process.

Key Relationships:

  • Reports to: Director, Strategic Sourcing

  • Team: 3 - 10 Strategic Sourcing Associates

  • Key Stakeholders: Line of Business and Functional Partners, Category Management, Global Procurement Leadership and Global Procurement Services Stakeholders

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Sourcing: Requirements gathering, market intelligence assessment, supplier qualification, project kick-off, event execution, pricing analysis, negotiations, contractual stage support (40%).

  • Contract Negotiations: partner with the line of business, suppliers, and legal stakeholders to ensure necessary supplier contracts are in place per the company policy.

  • Procurement’s focus is on the commercial terms and stakeholder coordination and collaboration (20%).

  • Requisition Review: Review of purchase requisitions by the line of business in the areas of: SOW review (commercials and legal terms), two-way price match, contracting, and adherence to policy & third-party risk management requirements (15%).

  • Stakeholder Relationship Management: work closely with the line of business and other functional subject matter experts to understand requirements, ensure sourcing expectations are met, project status updates, and objectives are achieved in relation to any commercial negotiations, including RFx’s and Targeted Negotiations (10%).

  • Project Coordination: entry point for strategic sourcing projects (Ariba eSourcing) and partnership with category management Consultants to maintain and update project workload. (5%).

  • Other tactical and administrative tasks as assigned (10%).

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills

Required:

  • BA/BS or equivalent degree required, preferred concentration in Supply Chain Operations / Management.

  • 2 - 4 years of experience in procurement or supply chain & operation.

  • Understanding of procurement, the Source-to-Pay process, and the role it plays within the Enterprise.

  • Strong problem-solving capabilities and analytical skills - able to construct/execute financial analyses.

  • Proficiency with spend data, pricing analysis (i.e., apples-to-apples) and identifying insights within data.

  • Quick study - able to gain a fact-based understanding of indirect categories of spend, current supplier base, supplier economics and major trends in relevant markets.

  • Project Management related to strategic sourcing projects: create sourcing timelines, meet milestones and deliverables via project planning, risk identification and mitigation and aligning with leadership.

  • Effective written & oral communications and presentation skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Business Intelligence tools (i.e., Microsoft PowerBI).

    Preferred:

  • Ariba eSourcing proficiency, management consulting experience, non-IT indirect category knowledge and understanding of third-party risk management principles.
