       Qualifications: Licensed Registered Nurse Salary: $32.84 to $42.34 per hour based on experience 10 month position (September through June - Follows school calendar) SUMMARY: The School Nurse performs professional nursing service at one or more schools in the maintenance of acceptable health standards, school health records, and the treatment of students. Intervenes during employee health problems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Plans for and conducts periodic examinations and screening procedures as required by New York State law and the CCSD Board of Education Policy.

  2. Assists the School Physician in physical, visual and auditory screening examinations of students.

  3. Administers first-aid and emergency treatment to students and employees.

  4. Appraises the physical health status of pupils through observation and analysis of records on a continuing basis.

  5. Assists with public health school clinics.

  6. Prepares, maintains and shares information on Cumulative Health Records, including physical exams, immunization dates and Body Mass Index (BMI).

  7. Arranges transportation of sick or injured students and assists employees in arranging transportation to the hospital or home.

  8. Orders, inventories and oversees the storage of first-aid and related health supplies and equipment.

  9. Assists the administrator in planning and maintaining a safe, healthful school environment, including the establishment and implementation of emergency care procedures.

  10. Participates in the development of policies to improve and protect the health of students and school personnel.

  11. Prepares records and reports as required.

  12. Dispenses medications as ordered by physicians with written permission from the parent/guardian, in accordance with New York State law.

  13. Maintains a daily log of each student’s visit to the nurse’s office and the reason for the visit.

  14. Carries out appropriate policies and procedures for reporting emergencies and illnesses.

  15. Provides supervision of students both in and outside of the classroom in accordance with building and district expectations.

  16. Reports to school on time.

  17. Maintains confidentiality.

  18. Adheres to and enforces the CCSD Code of Conduct.

  19. Participates, when appropriate, in continuous professional growth and development related to the field of nursing.

  20. Attends required meetings and follows building rules, procedures and district policies.

  21. Maintains positive, cooperative and mutually supportive relationships with students, staff, caregivers, colleagues, district personnel and community.

  22. Uses excellent written and oral English skills when communicating with students, staff, caregivers and community.
