We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for a Mechanical Engineer within our Engineeringteam to help support our Adjustable Bed in Carthage, Missouri. As a Mechanical Engineer you will have the opportunity to design, plan, organize, integrate, and complete engineering projects. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by having direct input on design and development and product improvements through VA/VE efforts. The team you will be working with is close knit and collaborative, and values innovative and creative thinking.

So, what will you be doing as a Mechanical Engineer?

  • Manage scope of project assigned.

  • Provide project status & reports to Branch Manager weekly or upon request.

  • Perform all necessary calculations, analysis, test or studies to confirm or substantiate design choices.

  • Follow all written procedures, work instructions, and quality plans.

  • Recommend or provide solutions for project problems of issues relating to performance, quality, and schedule of financial targets.

  • Provide necessary documentation and information required by the project.

  • Provide clear instructions and direction to drafting or clerical partners for documentation task that are delegated.

  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities related to the product, process and/or the system

  • Identify, record, and communicate any problems relating to product, process and the management system.

  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels.

  • Verify the implementation of solutions.

  • Control further processing, delivery or installation of nonconforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.

  • Participate in the Continuous Improvement process.

  • Conform to all Quality and Safety requirements and procedures.

  • Perform other duties as requested or as deemed appropriate.

    To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering

  • Proven ability to use 2D & 3D CAD Software

  • Ability to maintain project schedules & goal throughout the department.

  • Must be able to coordinate engineering functions within all facility departments.

  • Must be able to support technical issues in mechanical devices & structures.

  • Able to produce & validate technical solutions.

  • Strong communication skills, math, English, & PC skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

  • Strong organization skills

  • Must have a cooperative attitude, necessary to work effectively with others.

  • Knowledge of good business practices and ability to learn and use L&P policies and procedures.

  • Commitment to Quality Management Systems and Continuous Improvement

  • Commitment to L&P Safety and Environmental initiatives
