JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Position Title: Part-time 4-H Program Assistant – Cumberland County

Salary: starts at $18.00/hour

This individual will support the local 4-H program in Cumberland County to provide high quality positive youth development opportunities for youth audiences. Additionally, the individual will work with volunteers in maintaining and expanding the 4-H livestock program opportunities. This position is based at Penn State Extension, Cumberland County, 310 Allen Road, Carlisle, PA.

Specific responsibilities Include:

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate age-appropriate 4-H events, activities, and projects for youth.

  • Provide support for 4-H events by coordinating registration, chaperoning, conducting workshops, and assisting with the management of shows and contests.

  • Work cooperatively with other staff and community partners in planning and conducting programs, activities, and other special events.

  • Assist volunteer 4-H leaders with developing monthly educational programs for their club meetings and activities. Provide 4-H educational programs to clubs as requested.

  • Assist 4-H volunteer 4-H leaders with understanding and implementing Pennsylvania State policies and procedures by providing group and one-on-one training sessions.

  • Support the 4-H animal science clubs by attending and assisting with 4-H roundups to include planning, selection, livestock sale details, and awards banquet arrangements including the creation of catalogs, certificates, and agendas.

  • Communicate the goals, purpose, and accomplishments of the 4-H animal science programs to 4-H members, volunteer leaders, parents, and the public through a variety of media. Take photographs/write promotional articles about the Cumberland County 4-H program. Monitor Cumberland County 4-H clubs' social media pages for appropriate posts.

  • Maintain job skills through Penn State Extension trainings on animal science youth curriculum, principles of positive youth development, and policies.

  • Provide program coordination to support the Cumberland County 4-H Exchange Club with screening host families, travel logistics, educational programs, and fundraisers.

This position requires excellent organizational and time management skills, the ability to work independently, and the ability to plan and teach activities and educational programs. The successful candidate must be a team player who can work with diverse youth and adults. The candidate must be able to carry equipment and educational materials and supplies, with or without accommodation.

This position requires the applicant to operate a motor vehicle as part of the job duties. A valid US driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required.

Applicant must also be willing to work flexible hours. The number of hours per day will need to be somewhat flexible to allow for some evenings and weekends; however, a maximum of 24 hours per week is anticipated.
