Project Overview:

The ML2 Project involves the design and construction of a launch platform for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The purpose of ML2, located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), is to provide a launch platform for the Space Launch System (SLS), an advanced launch vehicle that will fill America’s need for deep space missions. ML2 includes many different subsystems that must operate and fit within the constraints of the structure and provide physical interface with KSC launch sites’ ground systems.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will lead a team and supervise superintendents and/or craft professionals on a project. You will direct craft professional activities and work schedules, and coordinate subcontract work activities and team development. Your oversight will ensure craft professionals have the tools required to be productive, comply with project policies, procedures, and job site work rules and procedures, and perform within specifications, schedules, and budgets. #LI-CL1

Major Responsibilities:

Leadership / Supervision (Discipline Supervision up to 50 craft)

  • Supervises and/or directs craft activities as assigned.

  • Schedules work to be performed and reviews work accomplished by each craft.

Planning / Productivity

  • Determines workforce requirements.

  • Coordinates established area operational plans.

Tools, Materials & Equipment

  • Monitors tool and equipment usage on the site.

  • Oversees the preparation of Field Material Requisitions for tools and consumables and ensures that the crafts have the tools they require to be productive.

Safety & Quality

  • Ensures the most current design document is used to complete the work and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.

  • Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors’ performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets.

Technical

  • Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting Engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.

  • Oversees engineering solutions with Subcontractors, Foremen and Craft Professionals.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with Engineering on constructability issues and model reviews.

  • Responsible for field construction operations within the Mechanical discipline.

  • Responsible for effective direct hire execution of all mechanical systems.

  • Prepares reports and forecasts, including summary of construction progress, craft personnel forecasts, and expenditures forecast.

  • Ensures that Bechtel and local/national safety codes, requirements, and standards are being complied with within assigned area of responsibility.

  • Ensures the Zero Accident Philosophy is incorporated into every aspect of construction operation.

  • Actively participates in scheduled safety meetings.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

  • Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces.

  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident of the US.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain any security clearances required for this position.

  • Recent Bechtel experience as a Mechanical Superintendent at a large EPC Project (preferred).

  • Working knowledge of the Bechtel Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs) and the related Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) utilized by Construction (preferred).

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of a single or multi-discipline construction or engineering operation.

  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s Zero Accident Philosophy.

  • Knowledge of the Project ES&H Handbook, Supervisors ES&H Manual, Project Safety Management Plan, and Bechtel Core Processes.

  • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field activities.

  • Knowledge of Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs).

  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications in accordance with current Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAP) standards.

  • Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.

  • Knowledge of the use of subcontracts, and the contractor and subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.

  • Experience working with, supervising, and administering subcontractors and/or Direct Hire workforce.
