Posting Summary
Reporting to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Strategy, Diversity, and Community Engagement, the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion draws on a broad range of expertise to create, plan, and drive core activities for the Division of Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement connecting campus initiatives to national best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion, as well as measuring the effectiveness of initiatives in accomplishing desired aims. Through intentional outreach and partnership development, the Director will develop and support campus diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives that align to the campus strategic plan and serve as a strategic thought leader to advance institutional equity and inclusion goals. The position will collaborate with colleagues across the campus who support diversity, equity and inclusion, tracking such efforts for students and staff and support coordination of services campus wide as well as identify and remediate gaps. The director will connect with colleagues in the office of the Senior Vice President for Equity to assure alignment with university wide goals and support cross-campus engagement efforts to realize the university's commitment to fostering an inclusive learning and working environment. Position may be asked to travel from time to time. Must have access to transportation and be available to work some nights and weekends.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must have a master's degree in education, social science, psychology, philosophy or a related field and have a minimum of three to five year's relevant work experience in higher education or a non-profit organization. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and cultural competencies in order to interact with a wide range of individuals, including undergraduates, graduate students, staff, faculty, administrators and community members. Must possess outstanding communication and presentation skills as well as overall aptitude for understanding and communicating about complex and sensitive diversity, equity and inclusion topics in ways that are interesting and relevant to a wide range of audiences. Must have experience using quantitative and/or qualitative data to assess initiatives and inform decision making. Requires the ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate success in overseeing complex projects in an institutional setting, ensuring timely communication to relevant parties (e.g. funders, superiors, stakeholders, etc.), managing conflicts and challenges that arise, resulting in successful implementation. Must have strong supervisory skills to select, lead, and motivate staff (including student workers and volunteers) as well as a highly collaborative style with the energy, maturity and leadership to serve as a unifying force. Must be available to work some nights and weekends and have access to transportation.
Advanced knowledge of higher education, particularly advanced study in humanities, social sciences, psychology or a related field to demonstrate deep understanding of complex and sensitive diversity, equity and inclusion topics, including but not limited to racism, homophobia, sexism, xenophobia, ableism, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will have experience leading educational workshops in a college environment. Program development experience in a research-intensive environment is strongly desired. Demonstrated ability to work with campus partners to develop and sustain support for programmatic activities. Demonstrated success in relationship building and a track record of leveraging resources to accomplish strategic objectives.
