Sanofi is seeking an experienced Translational Medicine Lead with scientific expertise in neurologic, rare, and/or immunologic diseases to develop translational medicine strategies for early and late development projects. This data-driven position is in the Biomarkers & Precision Medicine group, part of the newly formed Translational Medicine Unit, focusing on neuroimmunology, ophthalmology, rheumatology, and rare diseases. These are high priority therapeutic areas for Sanofi and include a robust pipeline addressing a broad array of diseases. The core responsibility for this position is the strategic development and implementation of translational medicine plans for projects, including identifying biomarkers that predict patient clinical response, demonstrate molecular activity, and/or correlate with clinical efficacy/safety endpoints and help in dose selection. The individual will be a key member of global research and development project teams. Collaborative interactions with basic research scientists, clinicians, modeling and simulation experts, bioinformatics scientists, biostatisticians, and biomarker assay experts are critical for success in the role.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop translational medicine strategy for research and development projects, including identification of biomarkers for patient selection, pharmacologic effect, and clinical efficacy/safety

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary functions to design and lead the implementation of informative biomarker strategies in clinical studies using a broad range of approaches, including data science, omics, and bioimaging

  • Have deep scientific understanding of translational medicine, including relating abnormalities in biological pathways to manifestations and markers of human disease, resulting in clinical biomarker strategies for projects

  • Review and critically interpret results, including internal and external clinical and non-clinical data

  • Collaborate effectively with global team members and managers from various disciplines; serve as expert and internal consultant on assigned area and liaise with partners on projects

  • Lead translational medicine sub-teams for projects, coordinating efforts for biomarker identification and use

  • Identify optimal platforms and methodologies for generation of biomarker data

  • Ensure execution of biomarker studies to meet project timelines and budgets

  • Engage external key opinion leaders on projects and potential collaborations

  • Present data and plans in appropriate meetings (internal and external)

  • Internal contacts: Laboratory research scientists, therapeutic area clinicians, biomarker assay and bioanalysis experts, clinical pharmacologists, project heads, bioinformatics scientists, biostatisticians, toxicologists, regulatory affairs experts, medical leads, scientific communication leads, clinical operations

  • External contacts: Clinical and basic science external experts, bioanalysis vendors, health authority representatives

About You

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications :

  • MD, MD/PhD, or PhD with 5+ years of experience in translational or clinical research

  • Expertise in neurology and/or immunology and/or rare diseases

  • In-depth understanding of identification and utilization of biomarkers in drug development

  • Experience in translating the biomarker strategy from research to clinical development

  • Experience in implementing reverse translation approaches to bridge the translational gap

  • Scientifically inquisitive, energetic, proactive, and driven to actively take part in scientific and clinical study challenges

  • Excellent communication skills to work with project team members from a variety of disciplines

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience with bioinformatics and computational methods for analysis of omics data

  • Understanding of biomarker assay development for clinical use
