Position Description

The Choi Lab in the Department of Oral Health Policy and Epidemiology ( OHPE ) at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine ( HSDM ) seeks a research associate/data analyst to join our research team and provide quantitative and analytical support for research projects evaluating the impact of health policy interventions focused on oral health and health disparities. Our faculty and student led research is focused on building the evidence base to promote the essentialism of oral health and to promote systems changes that enhance equitable health outcomes.

In this role, the individual will work with a multi-disciplinary team, including clinicians, statisticians, decision scientists, and health services researchers. The selected candidate will be expected to provide scientific expertise and engage directly in research and methods development to solve important scientific problems.

Under the supervision of the principal investigator, duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Work as part of a research team on scope and design of the studies, statistical analysis and interpretation, and writing of scientific reports;

  2. Manage, preprocess, and analyze electronic health records, administrative claims, and national survey data;

  3. Participate in development and implementation of population-level disease simulation models to evaluate the impact cost-effectiveness of various health policy interventions on reducing burden of non-communicable diseases and health disparities;

  4. Support preparing and drafting research protocols, which involves conducting literature reviews and eliciting required data elements;

  5. Understand and having experience with quantitative methods (simulation modeling, optimization, and machine learning) preferred.

    Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, computer science, data science, or closely related field with 2+ years of relevant experience.

  • Proficiency in statistical programming languages (R, SQL , or Python) is required.

    Additional Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred. Some prior research experience in public health and medicine preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office setting. Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process.
