    Additional Qualifications and Skills: The following job-specific skills and competencies are preferred:

  • Master's degree in health policy, public health, health economics or equivalent strongly preferred

  • Second language skills (French or Portuguese) a plus

  • Use of search engines for literature review

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, intermediate to advanced Excel skills, cloud-based document preparation and storage (Dropbox/G-Drive)

  • Candidates should have strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills

  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral

  • Aptitude to perform highly complex experiments with high levels of reliability and accuracy within time constraints

  • Must possess excellent problem-solving skills and previous experience in literature review.

Department:Global Health and PopulationPre-Employment Screening:Identity Job Function:Research Position Description: The successful applicant will lead work in selected countries in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia focusing malaria and maternal and child health with the following objectives:

  • Investigate the processes that each study country undertook to develop evidence-based to inform malaria and maternal and child health strategic plans and resource allocation and the barriers and facilitators to development of evidence-informed policies.

  • Frame which best practices and core capacities enable each step of the evidence-informed policy processes to be successfully operationalized across study countries.

  • Investigate the key decisions that were made because of the process as positive deviance from business as usual, the level of implementation of these decisions, and their impact nationally or sub-nationally

    The Policy Analyst will have regular (at least monthly) research and progress assessment meetings with their Harvard faculty mentor for the duration of this position. They will also interact with collaborating mentors at the Harvard CHan School Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases and Department of Global Health & Population and will collaborate with experts in this health policy analysis and implementation and stakeholders in selected study countries.

    Core duties include but are not limited to:

    1. Contribute to country selection criteria based on quantitative and qualitative metrics.

    2. Contribute to the identification and engagement of country research partners.

    3. Lead the development of research protocols and methods to implement literature reviews, qualitative and quantitative approaches.

    4. Contribute to within country evidence-to-policy process mapping, individual and focused group interviews.

    5. Contribute to review, production and dissemination of study reports with clear recommendations on strengthening the evidence-to-policy process.

    6. Other duties as assigned

    Job Summary: The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health seeks a policy analyst to join Dr. Abdisalan Noor's research program. Dr. Noor leads a program of work to strengthen capacity and the enabling strategic, policy and leadership environment for public health analytics in health systems in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), with a focus on Africa. The program of work (Applied Public Health Analytics project) aims to develop a networked architecture for sustainable capacity development in public health analytics. The project will engage national public health institutes, national malaria programs, the World Health Organization, the Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention and other partners.

    The Applied Public Health analytics team is seeking a Policy Analyst with strong skills in qualitative research, experience in literature reviews, evidence to policy translation and engagement with Ministries of Health.
