The Calgary office has a vibrant and dynamic environment with excellent opportunities for professional growth. We are a multidiscipline team working across Alberta in multiple sectors for a variety of clients. Our projects vary in size ranging from small commercial developments to light industrial, water, government, community, and private sector facilities.

Your Opportunity

As a Senior Structural Construction Reviewer – Buildings you will be instrumental in overseeing the construction phase of projects, focusing on site review and assessments of structural components. The successful candidate will be adept at client interaction, contractor communication, and will thrive in a fast-paced collaborative team setting.

We are involved in a wide range of projects of various complexity in multiple sectors including major research laboratories and healthcare facilities, advanced educational projects and infrastructure projects yet also undertake small and medium sized rehabilitation, renovation, commercial development, light industrial and structural assessment work. You will provide construction administration duties for our buildings structural team, leading other junior staff in the field. Projects will be a blend of our buildings work with a strong emphasis on water projects and concrete building materials.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing structural construction, reviewing the installation and assembly of structural elements, ensuring adherence to design specifications, collaborating with contractors and structural team members to address structural challenges and resolve technical issues on-site.

  • Represent Stantec at site meetings and liaise with owners, contractors, architects, engineering disciplines, and other project stakeholders to meet project objectives.

  • Prepare and coordinate structural solutions for site issues and issue site instructions, corrective actions, and responses to RFIs.

  • Prepare field review reports and review shop drawings.

  • Assist Project Managers in developing project budgets, work plans, and schedules.

  • Coach junior staff members in the field and with other construction administration duties.

  • Depending on assigned projects, role may require full time presence on one or multiple active construction sites.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Job site experience reviewing the construction of concrete elements.

  • Experience in designing and/or overseeing concrete repair is highly desirable.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, Bluebeam. Revit and finite element engineering design software such as ETABS, SAP 2000, SAFE, RISA, and RAM experience/knowledge is highly desirable.

  • Strong working knowledge of the requirements of CSA Standard A23.1, and concrete and concrete materials test methods of CSA Standard A23.2 as well as ASTM and ACI committee documents.

  • Registration or eligibility as a Professional Engineer OR Certified Engineering Technologist in Alberta is required.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a multidiscipline group.

  • Strong leadership, time management, project management, communication and team building skills.

  • Detailed knowledge of Project Management fundamentals.

  • Highly organized, able to prioritize multiple tasks, and demonstrate flexible approach to work assignments.

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changes in technology and to integrate new technologies into daily work processes.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized University OR an applicable Construction Focused Technology Diploma from a recognized technical school.

  • 8 - 15 years of post-graduation experience in structural design and construction administration. You possess a thorough understanding of structural design and construction projects.
