Job Description: General Responsibilities: The Marine Transportation Department invites applications for a full time, temporary position in Marine Transportation with an emphasis in navigation and seamanship. The successful candidate will teach four sections per semester, advise majors, and serve the University through committee work. The preferred specializations include navigation, ship-handling and shipboard safety, seamanship, watch-standing, and pollution awareness. Potential courses may also include Electronic Charting and Display (ECDIS), Advanced Ship-handling, Basic Seamanship. Massachusetts Maritime Academy follows a ?Learn-Do-Learn? model, where our hands-on simulation labs and classroom experiences enable our students to ?apply? textbook knowledge in the field. Qualifications and Requirements: ? Hold a Bachelor?s Degree in Marine Transportation or related field; Masters Preferred ? Hold a Third Mate license with current Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) qualifications. ? Have at least three years of full time experience in teaching at an accredited institution of higher learning, or have three years of service in a professional maritime field time (or a combination thereof) ? Possess an understanding of teaching in the university setting ? Exhibit excellent oral and written communications skills ? Understand the unique mission of the university as a maritime academy This is a full-time, temporary, benefits-eligible position in the MSCA bargaining unit at the rank of Assistant Professor for the 2023-2024 academic year beginning September 1, 2024. Salary: \$74,000-\$84,000 MMA is a fully accredited, four-year, co-educational state university offering Bachelor and Master of Science degrees that are highly regarded in the worldwide maritime industry and beyond. Located at the west-end of the scenic Cape Cod Canal, MMA is an hour?s drive from the thriving urban communities of Boston and Providence and offers easy access to the pristine beaches of Cape Cod and Martha?s Vineyard.
