Intermountain Health Registered Nurse House Supervisor in Butte, Montana

Job Description:

The House Supervisor is responsible for supervision of hospital activities and coordination between patient care areas and other departments for the delivery of safe and appropriate patient care for a specific shift.

Scope

1.Maintains competency to deliver patient care to a variety of patient populations. Capable offulfilling the requirements outlined in the RN position description.

  1. Embraces technology. Demonstrates competency in the utilization of the EMR. Utilizes technology to enhance efficiency. Competent in applications that facilitate quality decision making such as timekeeping and report generation.

  2. Facilitates the flow of patients throughout the acute care continuum. Removes barriers related to transitions in care.

  3. Oversees the staffing of nursing units. Proactively manages gaps in nursing division coverage. Develops a 24 hour staffing plan and looks ahead at gaps across the week and weekend.

  4. Strives to optimize productivity and acuity balanced assignments.

  5. Serves as a resource to the nursing division with knowledge of federal, state, regulatory, policy, procedure, and practice standards.

  6. Ensures supplies, equipment, medications, and other resources are available to promote safe, quality patient care.

  7. Strives to ensure service excellence for our patients and families. Role models exceptional service excellence behaviors. Seeks to positively resolve patient and/or family issues. Appropriately escalates service excellence concerns.

  8. Provides coaching and mentoring to nursing division associates to promote professional growth. Focuses coaching and mentoring efforts on nurses new to practice to promote a successful transition to practice.

  9. Promotes workplace safety working in collaboration with leadership and security.

  10. Contributes to healthy work environments by role modeling and promoting a culture of safety. Leads with transparency and authenticity.

  11. Encourages collaboration across hospital departments and among professionals to ensure safe, quality patient care. Promotes effective communication.

  12. Leads with cultural competence.

  13. Embraces the organizations strategic objectives and related initiatives. Demonstrates alignment with department and unit leadership. Promotes initiatives and facilitates department/unit engagement in the work.

  14. Demonstrates understanding of Emergency Management principles and understanding of the hospital Emergency Operations Plan. Provides leadership in the event of a crisis.

  15. Promotes safe, quality patient care. Facilitates the escalation and investigation of patient, family, or associate events. Uses Just Culture principles in event investigation.

  16. Responds to urgent or emergent patient care situations. Demonstrating ability to rapidly assess and intervene to support the care team when necessary.

  17. Utilizes the Nurse Practice Act, Scope and Standards of Practice, and Code of Ethics to role model professional nursing behaviors and practice. Serves as a resource providing interpretation of nursing practice standards for all health care team members.

  18. Seeks growth opportunities to maintain clinical and leadership competence.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required

  • BSN or completion of BSN within 4 years of hire

  • Current RN license in state of practice or Compact license

  • BLS certification

  • ACLS certification required within 6-months of hire

  • FEMA training ICS 100 and ICS 200, Emergency Notification System training, and EMR e-training within 12 months of hire

  • Minimum 3 years current RN clinical experience which includes the management of critical, complex patients

  • Leadership experience

Preferred

  • MSN

  • Additional ICS courses 402, 300, 700/800

  • PALS certification

  • National certification in area of practice

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.- and -Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.- and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.- and -Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).- and -May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
