Juniata Valley YMCA Pool Manager-PT in Burnham, Pennsylvania

POSITION SUMMARY: The pool manager will assist the Aquatics Director with the overall planning, development, management, and supervision of all aquatic programs at the Juniata Valley YMCA.

Hourly Rate: Starting at $12.00 per hour Hours: Not to exceed 30 hours per week Flexible schedule- shifts will be mostly daytime but times and days of the week could vary. Requires some evening and weekend work as defined by the needs of the program.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Must be a competent swimmer
  • Must have all clearances, FBI, State Police, and Child Abuse
  • Must complete the mandated reporter training
  • Be available for any shifts (including evenings/weekends)
  • Have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and physical ability to act swiftly in emergency situations
  • Have ability to observe participant activities adequately, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures
  • Either possess a Red Cross Lifeguard certification or be willing to obtain one within 30 days of hire date
  • Either possess a Red Cross Lifeguard Teaching certification or be willing to obtain one within 60 days of hire date
  • Either possess a Business Pesticides License or be willing to obtain one within 3 months of hire date.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain a certified Red Cross lifeguard certification
  • Maintain a certified Red Cross lifeguard instructor certification
  • Maintain a pesticide license
  • Maintains a current Certified Pool Operator's license and be attuned to all general aspects of pool operations to ensure quality for all of the programs at the pools.
  • Assist the Aquatics Director with recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating all aquatic staff.
  • Ensures that all Aquatics staff members are up-to-date at all times on all certifications necessary for their jobs.
  • Keeps record of aquatics staff certifications and ensure all staff maintain current certifications and clearances.
  • Assist the Aquatics Director with scheduling staff and programs.
  • Assist the Aquatics Director with coordinating scheduling of aquatics staff to provide proper program delivery.
  • Conducts certification trainings as needed to include (but not limited to) lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR.
  • Conducts staff meetings and/or hold refresher courses for lifeguards as needed
  • Ensure that all staff are knowledgeable and understand the YMCA Policies, Code of Conduct, Core Values, Pool Safety Regulations as well as program policies and procedures.
  • Monitors and maintains daily pool operations and chemical levels to adhere to all state, local and YMCA of the USA health and safety regulations. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels.
  • Vacuum the pool 1 time per week
  • Shock the pool 1 time per week during busy season, or every other week in off season
  • Wash down the deck a few times per week
  • Scrub the deck down 1 time per week
  • Fill CO2 bottles when needed, After 4 empty C02 tanks order more
  • Keep an eye on the chlorine tank- once it gets down to a certain level order from Buckman's
  • Test the pool with the Reagent water test kit every two hours and make sure we have the Reagent water test kit supplies on hand
  • Monitor the pool temperature every two hours 
  • Keep the mechanical room swept and organized
  • Change the filters, re coat the filters as necessary
  • Routine checks each day making sure all mechanical things are working properly (pump, water leaks, etc.) If anything is not working properly, please reach out to a maintenance guy asap.
  • Keep towels washed
  • Wipe down all of the stainless steel (rails, ladders, etc.) with stainless steel spray one time per week
  • Keep the lifeguard office clean and organized Always check the safety equipment daily to make sure it is working properly
  • Either the Aquatic Director or the Assistant Aquatics Director shall be present for all the Juniata Valley YMCA swim meets as well as the Mifflin County High School swim meets
  • Promote and provide quality swim lesson programs to all members and community.
  • Maintains inventory and recommends purchases as needed.
  • Assure all equipment is safely and preventively maintained.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
